I've seen this type of Viking chair a lot on KZbin, And I ask, wouldn't a notch cut out of each piece and then notches placed together give the same strength as this style ? Because if so, doing 2 cuts at same time with a saw would make this a lot faster made. Then really only a saw (powered or not) and a jigsaw (or chisel) would be needed to make it in about 5 mins (little more if staining).

This method reduces the strenght of one of the boards by 2/3. Seems to me if you did an identical cut from opposites sides, halfway across both boards yoiu would retain equal strength in both boards.

Regarding safety I was adding a small office in my church, just stud walls and sheet rock for someone else to fling mud and paint. My pastor happened by and asked why I was using a handsaw. It was a Japanese pull saw and I was using because it kept my tool box light and I like it. I t's quiet. My reply was that it was a safety issue as no one keeps sawing after the teeth hit their fingers. A moment after he had gone I managed to catch a finger with one pull of the saw. At least the cut was fairly clean and I quit cutting as soon as it registered.😒

Please don't take this the wrong way--I really don't like entitled complaints from viewers. Just consider my point. Let's remember what a video is for: time saving. I stopped here for a quick look at how to make one of these, so that I could chainsaw one together in a few minutes. Rather than giving me a few dimensions, you've given me a bait 'n switch to a sign-up for something I have no interest in. This sort of stuff makes build videos in general far less useful. From a guy who has given away countless plans and ideas with no strings attached, consider marketing your brand through methods other than costing your audience time. It will get you a more appreciative response, and it just makes the medium better for all involved--especially for those of us who actually make the stuff. Besides, I was able to scale the dimensions from a screenshot anyhow. Such would be only be a theft if the design were an original. Really clear videography, by the way.

@trojanhorse94594 жыл бұрын
Clearly the dimensions would change depending on the height of the person sitting in the chair. It would also change the length of the rear leg depending on how laid back you want to be. So if he had provided you measurements and it not fit your build/height. You would be upset then too. How about do what other builders do and take your own measurements before hand. Or build it long and trim down till it fits your size then write it down for your notes.
@georgemullett51534 жыл бұрын
Why not just drill 4 holes on the corners and use a jig saw instead of useing a chizel. Your a wood worker with all the tools in your shop. Yep, you have great chizel skills...
