You are the reason that I’ve started composting. I’m trying multiple methods, i. e. Plastic trash can, bin that I turn and a wire fence bin. I’m having so much fun experimenting and learning about this. I can’t wait until next spring to start a garden.
@Bubby11004 жыл бұрын
Anyone with a little space should compost. It's amazing how empty your trash cans can be, when you compost your paper, food scraps, and tree leaves. If everyone with space did it, we'd have free compost and lower our carbon footprint. And it's cool to witness trash magically turning into dirt.

I moved to the suburbs six months ago and thanks to this video have started composting. Where do you keep their kitchen scraps while youre waiting to make a compost pile. I’ve started keeping them in the freezer but am worried there wil be too much? Maybe I’m overthinking it. I guess the best thing is to have 3 compost piles. But for now I will start with one.

I deliver newspapers, so I pick up the grass clippings on the side of the road on my routes. I mulch my excess papers and add sawdust and whatever else I can find. It's all free. To add a little phosphorus, to the mix, I take a few clumps of kitty pee from the litterbox and mix that in.

It takes longer; but, I use hand-held pruners or garden shears to cut up yard trimmings. During the lawn mowing season, I try to rake up the cut grass; but, the lawnmower that the lawn maintenance crew uses chops the cut grass so fine that it makes it hard to rake up. My compost bin is a large Rubbermaid garbage can that we drilled holes in. The bin only has trouble getting hot during the winter and early spring. But, I keep putting stuff in it. I don't have a pitchfork; but, I have a tool called The Claw that I can use to turn the pile to a certain extent.

Great presentation. Easy to absorb. Questions: 1. Your compost sac- has it got holes for the liquid to get out? 2. Can hard plastic containers good enough for composting in the absence of the sac? Hope to hear from you soon. Thank you.
@CaliKim294 жыл бұрын
Hi Esther, the Compost Sac is made out of a very durable aerated fabric, the water drains very well, and the compost gets AIR, which its critical to helping it break down faster. You can use hard plastic containers, but you should drill several holes so the compost gets air and doesn't get soggy. Thanks for watching!

Oils and meat juices will really jump start a compost pile. Just make sure to mix it in with plenty of fine browns, so you don't attract vermin.
