Elite Digital the concrete is far to wet which weakens the concrete ( the old adage .the more water in the mix the weaker the concrete should always be borne in mind. Also I would not use quarry blended sand and gravel mixes they are usually way to sandy and can not be relied on for consistency . The best precast concrete products are made by blending your own concrete from separate piles of sand and 10 mm sized stone . A good mix to use is 1 cement 2 sand and 3 to 4 stone . My preferred mix is 1: 2 : 3 .

I have never seen a precast concrete product company make there products from a pre blended sand and gravel mix ,the reason being different products require different ratios of stone chipping,s ,sand ,and cement . Those sand and gravel mixes usually have 2 much sand in them . The concrete is clearly 2 wet which weakens the finish product . ( I saw no evidence that they used super plasticizer which you would not need for filling such shallow moulds) how do I know all this ? I manufacture precast concrete products. ,and finally if you knew anything about this sort of work you wouldn’t have said I think they know what they are doing .

@@brickbybric how do you know they did not add any plasticizer to their water? How do you know the aggregate/sand mix is not pre mixed with correct ratio they wanted? Even though wet is weaker than if it was drier, still more than strong enough for application of fence posts.

What is the best cement to sand to gravel mix ? 2. How long to leave them before trying to remove them from the mould. 3. Should a high strenth cement be used?

I am trying to make these (but 6x6 with a flat top, I have a metal mold I made). For some reason they keep crumbling? I am in the US so I'm not sure that the concrete I'm getting is the same, any pointers you can help me with, you look as though you have it down to a science!!

Hi we have just started making post at our garden centre but are having problems with airline cracks Our mix is 1 cement 1 1/2 sand 3 1/2 10 mm gravel We used to use 1 cement 2 1/2 2 1/2 10 mm gravel But posts where to sandy What is the best mix we make slotted and multi hole post Howling should we leave b4 we sell them Appreciate any advice Thanks

The best way to make concrete fence posts is on a Fleming machine; very fast and much stronger than a post that is wet cast.

That concrete looked really slushy and easy to handle. How come every time I mix concrete according to manufacture's recommendation, it end up super dry and nearly impossible to mix?

Add more water until you like the mixture.

Don't add more water. Too much water makes the finished product weak. Use an elasticizer. Also known as flow control.

Any reinforcing always ends up rusting, concrete is pourus so it's always going to happen sooner or later

They make enameledrear, but it inevitably fails quicker. Some imperfection allows moisture in and it rusts at one point and then fails at that point. Best to just leave it bare.
