That turned out really well! I've never tried the plain Styrofoam (always use the pink or blue xps) for fear it would be unworkable, but you made it look great, may have to try it to save some money!

I think the xps foam is probably better for this project. It's more sturdy and easier to carve into faux wood. I just happened to have these styrofoam sheets in my garage and wanted to get rid of them. It is definitely a cheaper option though.

This came out so cool! Way better than the crappy ones they sell at the store! Can I ask why the dish soap in the black paint? Does it help the paint stick? .

It helps the paint seep and flow into the cracks and crevices. I don't know why, but I can tell the difference when I don't add the dish soap.

Damnnn....this is really excellent work, you got me thinking about going to Home Depot today for the Styrofoam board. Did you say if it's okay to get the one inch instead of the half inch? Just wondering if it would turn out as good as the half inch appears.. Thanks again!!!! 🎃

Yes, I believe that I mentioned in the other open coffin video that using 1 inch foam might be better. This was just what I had in my garage. I haven't tried it with the 1 inch yet however!
