I like how you did the French Seams for the corners. Gives it nice clean lines and a professional look.

This is a great idea. I want to add a shortcut to the elastic installation. After you fold and press the casing, tack the ends of the elastic together in a circle making sure that the elastic is not twisted. Attach your zipper foot, then lay the elastic between the pressed casing and the body of the sheet. Sew around the casing while pulling the elastic as you sew. When you have sewn the circle, the sheet is finished. Thank you.

I made one from flannel, it fitted perfectly after making adjustments to the elastic part. The problem was the elastic that didn't stretch enough, so I figured using 80 inches instead of 65 in was better for me. But I believe it's because of the elastic quality. Overall it was pretty easy to make and turned out great. Thank you for your tutorial!

I am getting read to make some flannel crib sheets and I am curious if you remember what type of elastic you used in yours, I purchased braided elastic and wonder if I need to increase the length I use. Thanks

Thank you for the helpful video. I just got my son a new mattress for his portacrib & its twice as thick (also a little bigger) than the old one. So now the sheets don't fit! Luckily I have lots of cute robot print fabric I found on sale & elastic too. I'm going to use this tutorial along with the info you posted in a reply to someone's question of adjusting the size.. Thank you!!

I thought about how to reword my question. If you take the total number of "s all around the entire sheet (circumfrence) take that measurement and deduct approx. how many "s to cut your elastic.... I read that 4"s should be enough; but that doesn't sound right. Please advise... Thanks! Loved your video....

Great tutorial.. I bought the wrong size fabric, but instead of buying more I added 5 inches of white to a long side and used that as the back of the crib.. now the crib looks cute and no one knows one side is actually white! :P

How would I determine the measurements to make a fitted sheet for a doll crib mattress? Mattress is 2" thick & measures 18"x 7 1/2".Excited to try this after watching your easy to understand,step by step tutorial!!! Thanx in advance!!
@ribbonretreat

Debra Hotzoglou To make the bassinet sheet or any crib sheet that is different from the norm, I would measure the top of the mattress and then the sides. Let's say the mattress is 24" x 36" and the sides are 4". Let's add 3" (to go under the mattress) to 4" and we get 7". We need to add this all the way around the mattress so the amount of fabric we would need is 31" x 43". In my tutorial we cut 8" squares out of the corners. My mattress sides measures 6". (that's 2" more than the sides measure.) So take your sides 4" and add 2" to get 6". We will cut out 6" squares from the corners. As far as the length of elastic, I would just take an old bassinet or crib sheet and measure the elastic in those. If you don't have one, then just eyeball it and measure on the mattress. It doesn't have to be perfect. If it is too loose, undo it and cut off more elastic. Keep in mind I have only made crib sheets to fit my mattress. I would probably attempt making one with cheap fabric first to make sure it will work for your mattress. I hope this helps!

I need to make a deep pocket crib sheet for a 6.5" thick mattress, I think I need to make the square cut outs, 9.5" each corner. Will I have enough top of the mattress surface if I use 72x45 pc of material? is this going to be possible? Regular sheets have a really hard time going on this mattress. Or should I just make the 8" cut outs and increase the elastic to 70"?

Mimaw Hi Mimaw! To make the bassinet sheet or any crib sheet that is different from the norm, I would measure the top of the mattress and then the sides. Let’s say the mattress is 24″ x 36″ and the sides are 4″. Let’s add 3″ (to go under the mattress) to 4″ and we get 7″. We need to add this all the way around the mattress so the amount of fabric we would need is 31″ x 43″. In my tutorial we cut 8″ squares out of the corners. My mattress sides measures 6″ (that’s 2″ more than the sides measure.) So take your sides 4″ and add 2″ to get 6″. We will cut out 6″ squares from the corners. As far as the length of elastic, I would just take an old bassinet or crib sheet and measure the elastic in those. If you don’t have one, then just eyeball it and measure on the mattress. It doesn’t have to be perfect. If it is too loose, undo it and cut off more elastic. Keep in mind I have only made crib sheets to fit my mattress. I would probably attempt making one with cheap fabric first to make sure it will work for your mattress. Also, you would probably do at least 8.5" cut outs. And because the mattress is deeper, you would want to increase the width of the fabric to cover that. You can do that by piecing on the side or getting wider fabric. I hope that helps! Have a wonderful day!

I am also confused about the amount of elastic required. My mattress is shorter; 52" long (that doesn't include the depth of the mattress which is 6"s) I would like to know approximately how you figure how much elastic to be cut. 4"s doesn't seem like enough. I want the sheet to fit tight. thank you.

Is it correct to have the elastic 4 inches shorter than the fabric cut out?
@ribbonretreat
@ribbonretreat 9 жыл бұрын
Hi Lauren! The fabric length is 69". So, yes, the elastic is 65" so it would be 4" shorter, but that isn't a formula. If you happen to be changing the length or width, you could make the casing and thread the elastic through until it feels like enough. :) Have a great day!
