How To Make A Cross-Cut Sled// Table Saw Sled

In this video, I will be showing how I made a cross-cut sled for my table saw. I was having difficulties cutting different sizes of wood but with this sled it's more safer to make small and accurate cuts. With my DIY stop block, I can make repeatable precise cuts. This cross cut sled also has a hood that will prevent wood chips and dust from flying off the blade.
Please don't forget to like, subscribe and share. If you any questions, please leave a comment in the comment section.
Below are links to the following: William Ng video that best explains the 5 cut method, 5 cut method cross-cut sled online calculator, my DIY stop block video and the plan for this cross cut sled.

Well Done! It would be cool if you took the acrylic through to the end, above the safety block; so, you could always see the blade.

WOW! What a great video. And way to give William Ng credit for the "5 cut method"!!!! So many other YT I've watched get 1000s of view for their videos but don't give him credit or reference back to his original video! You have some really nice adds to your sled and have added to my ideas list for building mine. Thanks!!!

Nice video. But the multi-track is a no go with Sawstop. You also failed to add a chamfer to the base of the rear fence to keep sawdust from accumulating.
@VULECODIY
@VULECODIY Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Charles Cook, for your comment. You are right; the multi-track is a no go with Sawstop. However, it was designed for my Rigid table saw and can be configured to be used on any other table saw, including Sawstop. All you need to do is to remove the aluminum multi-track, and you are good to go. As for the chamfer, there was no safer way to add a chamfer on the multi-track at the time of the video. Moreover, that has not been an issue for me, but I should have mentioned that. Thank you for your observations.

That’s a great sled and video! Question about the safety shield. While I can see how it has some safety advantages, are you concerned that a hand could somehow get pulled under it and trapped? This would obviously be an unusual scenario but those are the things to watch out for.
@VULECODIY
@VULECODIY Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Your question is valid. It is possible that a hand could get trapped; however, the hood is meant to act as a boundary to prevent your hand from going too close to the blade. Also, the clamps are there to keep the work piece secure and your hands away from the hood's edge.

OK....serious question. I have seen about a dozen sled-building videos provided by various sources and exhibiting various mods and hacks to the basic design. In your opinion....how much can a person introduce to the basic design before a.) the basic design is compromised or b.) the mods or hacks begin to interfere with or limit each others' performance. Thoughts?
@VULECODIY
@VULECODIY Жыл бұрын
Modifying and introducing changes to a basic design can be creative and exciting. Still, it's essential to be mindful of certain factors to ensure effective and safe modifications. Here are some thoughts on your concerns: a.) Compromising the basic design: The extent to which you can modify a basic sled design without compromising its fundamental integrity depends on several factors, including the original design's stability, structural integrity, and intended use. If the modifications are well-thought-out and executed with consideration for the sled's intended purpose, it is possible to introduce changes without compromising its basic functionality. However, if the modifications weaken essential structural elements or alter its stability, the sled's performance and safety could be compromised. b.) Interference or limiting performance: When introducing multiple modifications or hacks, it's essential to consider how they interact. Some changes work harmoniously together, while others might interfere and negatively impact performance. For example, adding features that increase speed might sacrifice maneuverability or vice versa. The key is to carefully analyze each modification's impact and assess whether they collectively align with the sled's overall purpose. This is also applicable to other designs.

I really want to make this sled but I am lost looking at all those metric measurements. Any chance you have plans in standard measurements? I would really want to do this sled in a18" x 16" size - that will work better for me as I have a smaller jobsite saw. Do you think it is convertible to that size?
@VULECODIY
@VULECODIY 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Cbyutube for your comment! I have converted the sled from metric to standard measurements and the link will be at the bottom of this comment. If you want the size to be 18'' x 16'' that’s fine, however, I will recommend making it slightly bigger. My table saw is a small job-site saw too. If you have any question, please feel free to email me at Vuleco12@gmail.com Link to the sled in inches; bit.ly/Sledinches

Hi Vuleco, very nice video, thanks. I just finished my sled and one guy suggested that I add a plexiglass hood. I could not figure out how to do it without interfering with my stop block, but now I know - I just need to add a track on the front fence as well and make it removeable for when I need to get close to the blade with the stop block. One suggestion for your sled (if you can still change it) is to add replaceable inserts at the bottom to act like zero clearance inserts. You can then easily replace them when they get worn out. And maybe a removeable extension for when you cut long stock. Have a look at my video for what I did for those 2. And check out my all wooden flip-up stop. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3WsZoOahpV0gJo
