I've watched this video multiple times over the past few months not knowing too much about carpets when I first started. the hot iron is finned on the back for you to push you seam down at the same time as you sliding the iron forward.

I straight edge the side of the carpet is smoothing towards, and then top cut the other side. works well for me

Great job on your seams as always! I am interested in the Crain row cutters, I've seen you have the #302 cushion lock cutter but was considering the #304 versa cutter, why do you stick with the one you do instead of having the versa cutter with the option of bottom cutting?

Steven I will have to see what the number 304 looks like I’m not exactly sure what it looks like right off hand but the 302 is just what I have so that’s what I use no particular reason so long it’s that style

For this type of carpet, there is no need to follow the grid when cutting across the grain.

Funny thing was I was really hoping you were going to show a video on this soon. I was having some days where my seams just were not looking right to me. So I changed up how I cut my cross seams. I was talking to a co-worker today about how he makes his seams go together good from the start, and he told me that he puts a slight angle on his blade while doing a light cut. Basically if he was doing a doorway seam he would angle it while cutting one side, then as he did the opposite side he would angle the other way causing the seam to match better. I honestly never heard of that, but his seam looked flawless. But I have also had guys tell me to just cut straight and it will match fine...so i really dont know. Would kind of like to know your input about that

Matty Lee85 It seems to me that if he angled it on both pieces and you flipped it over there would be a V Cut where it goes together and overtime I would imagine that it would dip down, I always try to keep my blade straight up and down

That was what i was thinking when he did it. I think that my issue is that i am cutting a little too hard. sometimes they come out perfect and then some days it just looks weird

I've noticed nobody wants to take doors off anymore!!?? My Dad an every man he had work for him knew quickly he was anal about removing doors!! Use padding pieces to keep from doing damage when propping doors in other rooms!!! It makes everything so much easier!! I've seen over the years layers destroy the bottom of doors dragging to get doubled carpet dragging over the backing of carpet!!! Pop door pins and move at least a cross the room!!!

What you don't want Ruben is to have cross seams tape to be on top of your length seams tape!! Real cheap thin pushes you can see a slight bulge where they over lap!!

I always though that the rows need to be running the same direction in a room. I guess not.

ReinSman100 I would typically try to have the carpet laying down in the direction of the doorway so when you walk in the room the carpet is laying toward you, but ultimately it all boils down to seam Placement , Where ever is the best place for the seam Is the direction I lay the carpet
