A nice aspect of your design is crash safety. That jog with the two U joints will cause the column to collapse on itself and protect the driver in a front collision. Great job, Karl!

I've been working on and building custom choppers for more than twenty years and this is definitely my favorite web site. You do fantastic work and if this ain't custom, nothing is! Beautiful workmanship, all the way. Thanks for all the details, they make it what you are!

Great work around for that big Nail head, also, even though it's not something nice to think about, it will also be very safe heaven forbid in a crash. Basically won't send the column straight back at you. Something I always consider in every build I've done. Great work.

Great job, I like watching you work through solutions Karl. In Australia we aren't allowed to cut and weld any steering components. Your solution looks strong but wouldn't be allowed by engineers/registration authorities in Aus. Cheers, Andy

I'm restoring an old vehicle. Well, sort of I have to fabricate stuff. I wanna customize? Because some stuff you just can't buy

Planning is more useful than .. anything. When it comes to foot space and steering control . Karl, the Nissan Pathfinder I think it's called there? (We have RR50 Terrano) The column stays high to the radiator support panel in those. And a gearset in a case reverses the direction of the steering column continuing downwards to the rack and pinion steering system. When the steering box is turned to point ford, the direction of rotation is inverted. This all means the column can stay above the headers with sufficient planning, and your footwell stays clutter empty.

Karl, I know this isnt the most recent vid but maybe you'll see this. I wonder why not try and build your own "steer clear" type offset steering box for the roadster. I have always thought a ser of timing gears repurposed would work...🤷🏻♂

Have you seen the clear steer US chain offset s or The OziSteer Chain offsetavailable for offsetting steering shafts? Clear steer don't comply in Oz but the OziSteer do but shouldn't bother you in Canada. Love your work mate

Hi Carl, From Perth WA, Are you going to use the old firewall turn it around weld up the holes, and step in. It gives you more room to get at the distributor and the back of your motor to run cables/fuel line. An air scoop on top of the Bonnet to help cool the motor, and build looks great.
@jasonkebic7413 ай бұрын
I hope you install a slip shaft as the intermediate part, just so that if you were to ever end up in a collision your steering could collapse and not severely injure you.
