How to make a designer nesting box : From scrap wood

How to make a designer nesting box from scrap wood shows you what can be achieved with a bit of imagination. The nest box I made is for small birds like finches or blue tits but can be to accomodate various other birds. Spring is in the air and a nesting box is a good addition to your garden. I found this scrap piece of wood lying in the street. It was obviously an off cut from a fence. The design of your nesting box is up to you but if you can sketch out what you want to end up with it will be a big help.
Other tutorials are on the way covering various projects. It takes a while to edit on my slow machine. It is also filmed in interlaced which means I have to convert it to progressive first.

Very nice and I particularly like the roof design. I don’t think the perch and front ledge should be there as predators could use them.

Lovely work you do. I remember many years ago watching my uncle Shane in his workshop. One of the things he taught me (tricks of the trade) before pre-drilling was to countersink first and then drill your pilot hole. He taught me that the countersink has a tip and it needs to bite into the wood to keep it true. It really does make a noticeable difference creating really neat and tidy sinks for the screw-head to nestle into. Give it a try next time. Keep up the great work mate.

It's up to each individual person what angle to use. If I remember the floor was a third of the height which gave me the angle.

I'm sure he said 11 degrees for the roof battens and 35mm for the entrance hole. But I can only repeat what he said.
