Hooray for HA! Really looking forward to seeing how you incorporate it into your recipes. Is there a reason you don't stir it initially? I hydrate the powder in layers sprinkling the powder over a small amount of water creates a kind of film and I add a little more water on top then sprinkle more powder and it seems to hydrate in just an hour or so.

I was running a test case and so used the hyaluronic on dry skin and it completely dried out my skin! i erroneously imagined that it would still act as a humectant when applied to dry skin. Learnt the hard way that it doesnt :( Its interesting though that despite its mega humectant properties it pulls moisture from the skin in such a situation.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 5 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you should add some occlusion to your routine! Humectants are fabulous, but they need some backup or they will just eventually evaporate. Have you tried applying a 1% hyaluronic acid solution and then topping it with an oil serum or even some vaseline?

this video was very helpful! I was wondering do you have one for Vitamin C serum with preservative? I was hoping to make one with a pure oil and some preservative to elongate the life of it at least one more month
@SammieSunshineC
@SammieSunshineC 4 жыл бұрын
Hi, although I am not affiliated with this channel, I can tell you that you will need to stabilize your vitamin C serum to increase the life shelf, as vitamin C oxidizes at a fairly quick rate. You can use Leucidal SF complete as a preservative, there are other great preservatives you can research! To stabilize, use ferulic acid, and pure vitamin E. Water is a solvent for Vitamin C, but not for ferulic acid. So, if you buy ferulic acid in powder form, make sure you get an appropriate solvent (there are different kinds you can research). Also, you will have to emulsify the Vitamin E, as vitamin E typically comes in oil form. You can buy an electric emulsifier, or you can get these really cool emulsifying wax beads that do the job for you. Make sure your Vitamin C serum makes very little contact with light. Store it in a dark bottle and keep in the fridge. Also order some PH test strips. Vitamin C, being an acid, can really irritate the skin (ever got lemon juice on a cut? ouch). You can manipulate the PH level simply with baking soda, but there are other things to balance ph that offer benefits for your skin as well. Hope this helps!
@annieziokike1477
@annieziokike1477 4 жыл бұрын
@@SammieSunshineC Thank you so much! I'm wondering if you would know how much Emulsifying Wax I would need for it to ensure it still remained in a serum formulation. Also should I test the pH before or after adding the oils? I know I should get a pH between 2.5-3.5 but was unsure if that is with or without the oils added.

Hello Marie. I'm guessing you used the acid with high molecular size. The ones with a lower molecular size don't make thick solutions even with up to 5%. So do you prefer this one? Have you used the other one?
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
This is low molecular weight, which I do cover in the blog (it's worth clicking through, I promise!). I haven't been able to try any other size as LMW is all I've found in Canada. It seems like the research supports LMW or ELMW as the best weight for hydration without potential irritation: simpleskincarescience.com/hyaluronic-acid-for-skin/.
@rraptor158
@rraptor158 4 жыл бұрын
@@HumblebeeAndMe My understanding is that low weight molecular size creates an inflammatory response. So while it sounds nice that something is penetrating your skin with Hyaluronic Acid you want a heavy weight that'll only sit on your skin. Hello Marie. I just made one. Mine is very liquidity not jelly like yours. Is it ok?? Thank you!❤️ Oh I just did a little homework. I think I have used nano molecules so it does not get thick. Am I right??

Hi... I use 1% higher molecular weight hyaluronic acid powder in my serum. Its doing wonders to my skin. I recently got low molecular weight HA. I'm planning to make solution with these 2 HAs like u did and use 20% each of them in my serum making it cost effective. Do u think the result that I get with 1% HA power will get reduced if I use 20% of this 1% solution.

Hi Marie, i think you should hear the chemistry, kena. Who also hv a youtube chanel tht explain about the dangerous of low molekul of hyaruonic acid tht you formulate in ur recipe. She said, the highest molekul ( thick gel ha ) was better and save rather than lowest molekul of ha ... Can you watch the video ?? Thanks girl 🙏🙏

simpleskincarescience.com/hyaluronic-acid-for-skin/ From the research there, I'm not worried :) There are many different weights of HA, and the one I'm using is nowhere close to the smallest ones that can be irritating.

I'm new to working with hyaluronic acid, would it be helpful or worth it to rehydrate my HA powder using a glycerine slurry before adding in the water? I noticed that it was really important not to stir when HA was added directly to the water, & I didn't want to waste any of my powder because I stirred it in glycerine before rehydrating

Brilliant :) Can I just ask you coz I noticed that you are always using stainless steel funnel, ...might be a bit silly question but is it ok to use plastic one? Even when pouring hot/warm balms and stuff. Thanks Marie
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 6 жыл бұрын
I have at least one plastic funnel and I use it, too. I wouldn't recommend pouring a super hot balm through any funnel because it'll solidify on/in the funnel and clog it-I typically only use funnels for liquids and other things that aren't going to solidify too much. If you need a funnel to pour something into a container, that means the container has a small opening, like a bottle... not great for things that become very solid ha.

Hi Marie,I’m not sure if mine ‘s still usable , I might have whisked it too early .I left it for 7 hours ,waited until all the powder were sinked and looked clear then I mixed with mini mixer but it didn’t look that thick like yours.Could you tell me if it’s still usable?I thank you so very much.
@HumblebeeAndMe
@HumblebeeAndMe 4 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you may've used a smaller molecular weight of hyaluronic acid than I did-the weight has a big impact on thickening. If you used an ultra low molecular weight, that'd be why yours is thinner than mind :)

Hi I want to make this hyaluronic acid solution but Can i use iscaguard peg as a preservative? (PHENOXYETHANOL, TRIETHYLENE GLYCOL) Description is FORMULATION GUIDELINES pH (effective range) 3 - 9 Solubility (Water) 2.6 % Solubility (Glycols) Soluble Maximum Process Temperature 80 °C GENERAL INFORMATION Iscaguard PEG is compatible with most personal care ingredients. In aqueous formula- tions, heating to 40°C may be required in order to fully dissolve the preservative. So can i use this preservative what will be the procedure i have to heat the water phase or i can use it directly? Or i can use only phenoxyethanol as a preservative?
