One more thing you could do to this wheel in order for it to have a stronger/more durable mounting face is to put nuts immediately up against the base aluminium plate after passing the screws through, and tightening down. Then adding additional nuts on the ends of the screws, right up against the inside of the housing, that way the housing is resting on the nuts. This takes away all the strain from the 3D printed plastic parts and makes the whole mounting assembly incredibly strong, easily enough for 30Nm direct drive systems. Love your videos, you've been a huge source of inspiration!

I've been using this on my 83 Ford Escort and it's driving like a boss. Thanks m8. I didn't have a 3d printer so I used a jigsaw and instead of carbon fibre I used fibreglass which was recycled from an old building job. Some of the texture gets into my hand every now and again and it itches like a bitch but if I don't rub my eyes and use my gloves when I drive it works well. Couldn't be happier, I even think I take those corners a little faster.

Another awesome DIY project by amstudio. This would be cool to use with the Audi A4 DTM in Assetto Corsa in VR on my Fanatec base 😄👍
@OhItsThat5 жыл бұрын
These are the kinds of wheels Fanatec should be making. Instead of 5 different formula wheels based off an old design. There aren’t many GT3 style wheels available on the market. Not affordable ones at least. I have the Fanatec Mclaren wheel but it’s really toy like compared to some of their other wheels. I’d like some for Podium VR users. As we aren’t looking at our wheels it doesn’t need the extra visual aesthetics. No automotive branding, no lights and no little LED or OLED screens. Just lots of push buttons and funky switches.

Honestly it's much easier to but this stuff. But I took on an engineering course and I'm planning to make loads of things like that. You're my fav channel because of these things. You vids never fail to entertain me and make me want to create something myself. Keep up the good work, and I hope that you can create a online shop or something. More money for you means more videos for us! Keep up the vids. Can you make a video on how to make custom wheel rumbles? I mean it would be difficult as the inside of the wheel would be hollow. But a rumbling wheel when you hit curbs or anything would be a great addition to FFB. And also if it's possible a clutch pedal with a very strong vibration when hitting the biting point of the gearbox. If anyone can do it. It's you man. Looking forward to your next vid. Hope you read this comment and try and make this. It would be awesome!!!
@MirTort5 жыл бұрын
It's easier to buy, of course, but since this is a niche markets and economy of scale doesn't play in our favour, it's also hella expensive. If you have knowledge, none of the tools required to make this is particularly specific, not even the 3D printer these days, and the materials are rather cheap. You can build several wheels like this one for the price of buying one.

FYI, contact adhesive should be applied to BOTH parts (the grip and the suede) and the adhesive should be applied very thin and thinning with methanol is advised. Let them dry to a tack and when they touch each other, they will be fused permanently. Gluiing on one side with this type of adhesive will result in subpar results.
