I've used this on a film set as set designer/dresser and it's really effective. The only changes I would make, would be to trim the cup/lid lips, so that the air from the fan hits the rubber cement sooner.

Rubber cement is a non-permanent adhesive. Once cured (almost instantly) it is easy to remove as it sticks to itself. It is slightly easier to clean up than real cobwebs. I have never had it stain any surface but would be leary about spraying it on delicate fabric or a fine mesh that it could clog.

Rubber cement is the liquid that is used to create the webs. It is easily removable from most surfaces. I personally have never had any problems with it marring a surface but some rubber cement contains acetone which could effect some plastics. See the wiki page about rubber cement en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_cement

I made this today and it worked great. it does have an issue where it starts to vibrate badly if you go too fast or put too much fluid in, to the point where the container broke and flew off the drill in version 1. I fixed this by getting a hole saw that fit snugly outside the container and adding that between the container and the fan with a bit of a larger washer. that kept it from getting off balance and vibrating itself at all and I could go up to full speed with the drill with no issues..

@JBlanke11 жыл бұрын
might work better if you put the fan blade on the right way, the convex side should face the drill, and the concave side should face outwards. Curved fan blades like the one shown, are designed for maximum efficiency in one direction, and you have it on backwards, no wonder you had to bend the blades.
@dweezeltheyounger7 жыл бұрын

I was wondering the holes that you drilled in the sides for the rubber cement to come out what size drill bit did you use. I have been trying to make this web gun for three days and it doesn't come out right. Not like in your video, mine either won't spread any webs or it throws globs out. This has become frustrating and not fun for me and my son who have been trying to make this work. Any help would be appreciated. I did learn that to get it to do any webs at all I have to crank the speed on my drill all the way up but then it barely does any webs at all.

@brettlorijames i believe it's a 6" fan for duct work. i bought mine a farm supply store "Princess Auto" but i'm sure that you can find one at a heating and air conditioning supplier. two holes in the container. first one gets plugged by the bolt. the second (the very tiny one) lets the glue out. i tried more, but just ended up with too much glue coming out.
@ManuFortiMcCoy13 жыл бұрын
What size is the little drill bit? I usued one about the size of a piece of lead from a mechanical pencil. It seems to be to small. The stream of rubber cement is so thin that it tends to fly-away from the wind from the fan blade. I have to be very delicate with the speed of the drill (drill is 0-2500RPM). Great Video. Very detailed. Thank you, this is just what I was looking for. Please post more Halloween How To's.

Rubber cement is flammable. If you doing this you have to use something that's not flammable if using candles in the area with these webs. I would like to see a test of a flame of candles real close to the webbing to see what happens. If I catch fire I would look for something that's not Flammable and give you the same effect.

They webs made from rubber cement are very similar to real cob webs. they don't come down until you physically remove them. people, pets, wind can all take them down. if they are inside and not touched they will look exactly the same for the whole month. you can also add more at anytime to touch it up if they do get damaged

Is it best to drill 2 small holes on both sides of the plastic container? Or did you only drill 1 hole?
@DrawbridgeProps8 жыл бұрын
I only drilled 1 hole. It applies it fast enough for my applications. Some people drill one on each side. I have honestly never tried.
@jerrymc7778 жыл бұрын
I saw one YT video showing 2 holes.... I might try 4 holes too... Lol
@jerrymc7778 жыл бұрын
Hi again: I just tried this but drilled 4 holes. (1 at each round side) It works well but it's really slow creating the webs and then it begins gathering and clumping up. Is it better to use a square container so the rubber gathers better in each corner inside? Also, what size small drill bit did you use? Thanks again!
@DrawbridgeProps8 жыл бұрын
it is not a super fast technique. I found a square container worked well as it forces more liquid to the corners of the container. I have only ever used one hole. Can't remember what size bit.

Very interesting! I’ve been looking to make some artificial cob webs. I need to make them look old and dusty. Someone has been steeling from me at my work place. I want to see who the hell it is and have them arrested and fired. The project I’m doing is, I’m going to set up a small fake air vent that looks real and old with dust and cob webs. A hidden camera will be hidden in the fake vent. I so want to catch the fucker that is taking my stuff. Maybe I’ll get my stuff back or the cash value equivalent of what they took from me.

@DrawbridgeProps8 жыл бұрын
Rubber cement doesn't really stick to anything permanently so there is little chance of residue. That being said it is similar to cleaning regular cobwebs. It clings. I would be careful on surfaces that could be effected by the solvent that is in the rubber cement. It could permanently damage some surfaces like plastic.
