Awesome concept. I have landyarded SAK since I was a 19 year old infantry soldier. We used the SAK constantly and the landyard prevented loss of the item. Now I am 51 years old it’s the first thing that goes in my pocket when hunting. Thanks Blackie 🇺🇸 🇳🇿

I used to make keychains using this method as a kid using plastic lacing material during summer camp. I almost forgot about it and this brought back so many memories. I must do this again.

I learned to do this many years ago, let's just say more than 50, but I had forgotten how. Thanks so much for the refresher course, I definitely needed it.

Wow! I was trying to remember this knot that I learned to tie when I was kid (50 years ago, Ouch ^_^), on holiday. I've being searching since few weeks ago but I couldn't remember and I forgot it's name. As soon as I saw You tighten it, I remembered... in France (where I live) it's called "le Scoobidoo", pronounced "Scooby-Doo". So Thank You very much Blackie for this special one (for me)! Greetings from France ^_^ 👍🙏

Hiya Blackie, not sure if you already know this but...when forming the loops, if instead of crossing them side to side you cross corner to corner, you end up with a round braid instead of square, and if using contrasting colours, instead of ending up with opposite sides 2 pairs of colours the colours will 'spiral' up the braid atb Bill

Reminds me of when I was a kid in the early 70’s at camp. Made them out of this plastic stuff. Did one like that and one which was called a butterfly stitch I think. Cool stuff, got a project for this weekend now for my knife. Thanks Blackie

Blackie - the knot, as you tied it, is called a square sinnet. There is an alternate way of tying that results in a round sinnet. If you search for either one on You Tube, you can find some interesting patterns.

Traditional leather strap handles for cymbals use the same knot only it done only 2 or 3 times. But the key to this knot is to dress it properly on each level. How good is it? The straps are a medium weight leather about 1/16” thick and the thongs for the knot are a 1/4” wide. This can hold a cymbal that weighs about 5 lbs and moves around 35 mph against the other one also moving the same speed for a point of impact forces of 10 lbs at upwards of 70mph. If done just right the suction between them can cause one or both to turn inside out. And still those straps will last 2-3 years and typically need to be cut off to be replaced. Between high school and University of Tennessee I never saw a properly tied knot fail. Generally a thong broke or beauty reasons called for a replacement.

I wanted to make one long enough so my knife sits in the bottom of my pocket, but then the loop is to long on my wrist, so I added a couple of beads so I can snug it up so it swings right into my palm. Alternately you can just put an overhand knot where you want.

If you make the lanyard a little shorter than the depth of you pocket, the knife won't make a hole in your pocket over time. It will just hang in your pocket.
