I read your description but didn’t see anywhere that says which package would be the right material for this build. Will the Starter bundle have all the foam you have used? I did notice it is only the foam and not the other materials and tools, but I just want to make sure everything we need would be there. We are doing a version of the Narnia Dawn Treader film as our school play, and we have been trying to figure out how to create a head that doesn’t look ridiculous, and this looks incredible. I think the size looks pretty good for what we need with the whole neck expected to be two feet or so, and the whole front piece of the ship being about 4ft x7ft high (including the head and neck area) it looks like your whole piece is approx 18-24 inches. Is that about right? By the way, I’m sincerely blown away at how some fairly simple materials can create such an elaborate piece! I will absolutely be following your channel to learn more!🎉
@SKSProps10 ай бұрын
Unless I state otherwise I'd always recommend having a sheet of each size 2,4,6,10mm on hand to start any project. and the tools I use are pretty much the same ones on every build. I don't use my extremely expensive laser cutters or 3D printers on the channel because I know most peopel dont have those tools.

I'm making some dragon puppets at the moment so I think I'll be using the template as a jumping off point for that. I'll probably widen the head and bring the eyes to be more forward facing and shrink the size, at least initially. And I'll probably avoid the superglue though. I've made puppets from foam before and the differential flexing has always caused the superglued areas to crack.

This is an excellent tutorial and huge thanks for the template as well! Just a question though, how would you go about making this as a wearable head piece for cosplay, woudl anything need upsizing to fit a head inside? Also preferably attaching the lower jaw so its movable? Many thanks!

An awesome job as always Steve. I do have a question regarding the Kwik sea thought. My first ever build I also used kwick seal as all of the foam seams were dreadful. I also used it in other areas to smooth out, as i didn't know any better regarding smooth sanding drums. As I heatsealed, the kwikseal bubbled up as a reaction. As I didn't see you heatseal the top half before applying kwikseal, did you do it? And if so, how did tou prevent the bubble up?
@SKSProps Жыл бұрын
Thansk! My HD-foam requires a lot less heat than other brands to heat seal so I don't apply enough excess heat for the kwik seal to react

I have made stuffed ones... I now REALLY want to build from your foam! One question I have is about the contact cement. Have you tried the water based ones used for leather? I am very allergic to the solvent ones and even wearing a painter respirator mask it makes me sick(even working outside with a mask). Or is there another glue that works well?
@SKSProps Жыл бұрын
I have used the water based ones with mixed results. If you want just use the superglue and it will be fine

Template doesn’t show thicknesses because it depends on how big you want your horns to be. You could use the same designs and change the 4,6,10mm sizes. Watch the video when I get to the horns I tell what sizes I’m stacking. I don’t know of a printer that would print on poster board
