You have nothing to apologize for! You have a wonderful method for making a personalized dress form while keeping the cost nominal. You explained each step with great clarity which isn't easy to do! Pat yourself on the back for a job incredibly well done. I've just ordered the metal vintage dress form you suggested and as soon as it arrives will be following your wonderful tutorial. Thank you so very much. These are a lot of work and nerve wracking to produce.

Use subtitles to enhance understanding of instructions. I purchased a used tripod (meant for cameras, bought at thrift store for $10) as a base and wanted instructions on how to make a dressmakers model on top of it. This is the first video I've seen that shows how to attach it to a base, and the model is much more durable than others, with less expensive materials. All in all a win-win! (I also thought about using hanger as a base but I don't have the closet space to hang up a dressmakers model. Another consideration was a music stand, but then I saw this cheap used tripod and knew the adjustable base would be good. Its nice to have a freestanding model so I can pop it into a corner out of the way when I'm not sewing)

I am glad you showed the plaster step because it sounded daunting before that. I did not find the video oversimplified. I did have some questions: 1) What formed the base of your form underneath the t-shirt layers? I could see some metal underneath, besides the pole in the center. 2) Why not just stuff the T-shirts instead of adding a plaster layer? (That's the method I have been considering, just stuffing shirts.) Thanks!

I love the idea of using a t-shirt, as I was apprehensive of putting the plaster on my body over plastic. I think I'm going to continue it with a pair of skinny jeans for my legs.

Yes this is what I’ve been looking for! I’m like you where I literally looked up how real dress forms are made😂 Yours turned out great, so much better than the duct tape ones!

Well done on the presentation and it was really nicely pace, understandable and personable. Fantastic work on making your own dress form. Great explanations throughout the tutorial. Don't worry about sound quality - that's what the volume adjuster on our PCs, laptops and devices is for. :)

Thank you for the tutorial. Is it possible to stick pins into the mannequin?
@MarabelleDesigns4 жыл бұрын
Yes, because of the fleece layer it provides a thicker softer surface for pinning. (The fashion fabric layer helps too.)

Do the duct tape dress form then cut into a pattern add a seam allowance. Use card board to brace strategic areas like shoulders spine and front. Trace out your silhouette by side view and front view just make sure you measure it. Also leave an opening for a stand and you can add coat hanger to shoulders and neck opening to hang it in closet or from a hook in ceiling if you cant afford stand for it. Bootstrap fashions also has design you send measurements in and they create a personally sized pattern you can sew. But for those of us super plus size making our own is cheapest and best way. Maybe some day I will be brave enough to make a video of one like I made years ago. I need to make another lost the first one in a house fire in early 2000s.

I love love it so very nice i will try to make it i made 2 one out of duck tape the other out of dollar tree metal waste baskets both not very good they are harder than they look to get the shape correct ? did you use plaster of paris or another type of plaster ? what type of stand was use to hold the weight of the form 🤭 last ? did you use a bra with stuffing
