Great vids guys, have you ever considered fused glass for a tank?
@zheyushan14725 жыл бұрын
This is really cool!! Just wondering, is it possible to use clear acrylic tank as a substitute for the glass tank since this would be much easier to make?

Please tell me. What would be the alternatives instead of silicone or epoxy ?

We haven’t tried anything else so I can’t tell you. But if you’re using acrylic instead of glass it should be possible to acetone-weld the seams. That probably demands an altered recipe for the suspension liquid though.

What is the volume of the container? How much ferrofluid did you use to fill it?
@AppliedProcrastination5 жыл бұрын
A rough estimate of the top of my head would be about 350ml total volume and 30ml ferrofluid
@szymek15675 жыл бұрын
@@AppliedProcrastination thank you for your prompt answer! From the video clip it look like there are tons of it, but 30ml is amount I can afford ;)

Hey ^^ Im french and i have a simillar project and i see all your videos .(good job) I I have a big question for YOU pls^^ why not used alcohol for you Ferrofluid Container ? ty guys
@AppliedProcrastination5 жыл бұрын
From what we’ve heard, alcohol doesn’t work as well as brine. Plus it’s less available than water and salt. We haven’t experimented with this ourselves, and there may be special types of ferrofluid for which alcohol works better, but not the EF-H1 that we use

Did you used 12v electric magnets? Or less?
@AppliedProcrastination5 жыл бұрын
Yes, we use 12V electromagnets!

It may be better to use plastic containers because it is safer and more possibilities.

I'm currently building a smaller Ferrofluid Clock for my Bachelors in Electronics. And I'm struggling with keeping the ferrofluid from sticking. Could you tell me exactly which solution you used? I'm currently working with a 23% Solution of MagnesiumChloride and distilled water. Not much luck with that :( Did you coat your glass? Are you using plain salt? What solution? Help would be highly appreciated

Yeah... for a video about how to make a container, they don't really go into much depth about what they did, how it works, or why.
@guntergrauberger60934 жыл бұрын
They have another video that goes more into depth on the chemistry side. Didn’t see it at first myself.

You may have already seen it, but NileRed made a great video about making ferrofluid a week ago: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bH2bqoiPYsmihMU

Yes, we love that video! We are checking out if there’s any possibility for us to repeat his procedure in our lab :) that’s for the future though! We’ve got enough we want to test with our current display first!
