Wanna try ferrofluid yourself but don't want to pay the premium price? In this video I show you how to make your own very easily and cheaply!
I couldn't get the common DIY recipes found online to work well but in desperation found another way through my own experiments. I call it ferripaste since it isn't as fluid as the commercial stuff - but that only makes it even more interesting to play with. It will behave in a more varying ways to a magnet than just spikes like the ferrofluid.
Hope you can use it to make you own amazing ferripaste experiments :)

You have a gift for storytelling and teaching Brainiac75. I'm not even into ferrofluid, nor magnets, but I found this video after a long day of work, and your art of editing, composition, lighting, and narration just made everything better. I even learned a few things after watching! If the comments you receive aren't obvious, let me remind you that you are a treasure for KZbin, thank you for all that you do, and for always putting your heart into it!

the formation your Feripaste make are more irregular than the commercial stuff. I'd say it's more pretty. I could sit for while just watching the different shapes. Very cool, it's the best way to visualise how the magnetic field works. Great way to start a fresh week. Thanks, I always enjoy your videos. They are honest and educational as well as interesting. The magnetic lines seems to act like aurore boreale, northern lights. Alan Turing explained mathematically how the embryo of plants and animals could form geometric patterns. Basically, two competing type of cells with different grow rate. I asked twin brothers if they had same digital print. The negative indicate that a random process is involved.

My car has a drain plug on the transmission with a magnet designed to collect metal shavings. When I changed the transmission fluid a few months ago, I scraped off what the plug collected into a plastic container and played with it for the longest time. It was pretty much a ferripaste because it spiked in the same way. Got excited when I saw he used motor oil! Great video!

Long awaited, and well worth it. I was wondering if you would put your "Monster" magnet to the 'paste' side on, and you did. The patterns are stunning in there own right. I also learnt that there are two types of 'fluid/paste' which I would never have known but for you. I also enjoyed how soothing it was to learn because of the background music selected. That in itself is a powerful leanring aid. 11/10 on this one and, Cheers.

Well I watched it all the way to the end. I am not freaked out over this. You have officially made me a freak for magnetism. A couple of the patterns looked like a big shinny black dahlia blossom. Awesome ! - - to borrow a word from you. LIQUIDS , AT ROOM TEMPERATURE, CAN BE MADE TO TAKE ON SHAPES , FORM PATTERNS, AND MOVE NOT ONLY UPGRADE, BUT APPEAR TO MOVE ALMOST UPRIGHT! Going beyond what was done with the commercially bought product, your home experimental solution performs as well or better. You are one helluva man. Congratulations!

It is a phobia. People often have trypophobic sensitivities, which they call trypophobia, but they're really just people being uncomfortable. If you truly had trypophobia, you would actually FEAR repeated patterns of holes, rather than just being uncomfortable around them. In some cases, people will even have panic attacks, as with any phobia.
