Best info i have seen. As one ages it becomes easy to see perfection at any level ! You are a 10+. No tape, no slide release channel, no filler for the ejector port ? Seems much to easy ! Many Thanks

Hi Paul. Thank you for watching. Yes, you can prep it further, but it's not absolutely necessary on all items. The key is experience, as in knowing which models of knives and guns require more prep to soften their retention. We should have stated that in the setup for the video. You do bring up a good point with your observation. My rule of thumb is to "prep everything". However, I know others who prefer to reheat the material and ease the item out while it's relatively warm.

@@KnifeKits WOW, Thanks for the come back. My motives are a little self serving. Retired & was refered to Red Hill Holsters for a job as a presser. I call it a adventure ! You have put me way ahead. Thanks for that ! Pauley

I do have a question. How do you know where to put the rivets for retention? Is there a mathematical equation for it or just a well this looks like a good spot? I have seen a lot of the videos and no one seems to explain this is why I am placing this rivet for retention or for the adjustable retention. Other than that, I like these videos. I am trying to get knowledge about this to do it. I would really love to know though about the inquiry I made. Thanks much

Hi Jason. Thank you for watching! It's pretty much a judgement call rather than a hard rule. We try to put the retention posts in the center of the facia. If you place them too close to the body of the item, they tend to create too much pinch. On the other hand, too close to the edge of the material will sometimes allow for too much flexibility. In most cases, if you center the retention post between the edge of the holster and the item, you'll generally get the best of both worlds. You can also use more than one retention post if your item is large or particularly heavy. Thank you, again. And, don't hesitate to call if you need more help!! Alex

Very cool. The video is so detailed that if there were all the ingredients, you could try to make it yourself. But I don’t understand what you put between the holster and the clip?

Hi Vic. A lot of people call those "silencing washers", since they tend to reduce the sound of the rig when carrying. But, they also work great for creating space between the clip and holster, and are commonly used for creating retention on fold-over designs. Here's a link that will show you the different types and sizes: www.holstersmith.com/vcom/hardware-washers-c-553_639.html
