No matter what you do Frenchie, you'll never attain the perfection of Grandma's coffee the old fashion way: I remember her roasting her fresh beans on a clay tadjine, then she'll brew the thing over ambers in a kanoune in an antique turkish coffe pot and she let's it settle for 15 minutes. The result is something out of Heaven. You have no idea. The art of coffee is an ancient Arabian art.

Millennial here...lucky for you a lot of us embrace being hip and trendy with home appliances our great grandparents were familiar with. So while many millennials enjoy quick brew kcup machines. Some of us take pride in doing stuff the old fashioned way. Plus it makes us look cool when our friends come by and are baffled by the french press, the tea kettle, the cheese grater, the mesh tea balls, the air fryer ect. Thanks to the internet some of us are discovering the days of old on our own and being cooler than you baby boomers thought you were. Didn't mean to be so pretentious. But we as millennials are tired of being attacked. Most of us are 30 now and full grown adults with health problems, noticeable signs of aging and chronic illnesses linked simply to aging. That alone is killing us enough. We dont need to continue to eat big heaping helpings of baby boomer sh*t everytime one of us does anything you think is stupid because it's not what you did 40 years ago. When I turn 40 in a mere 10 years I swear if I hear anything disparaging of millennials from some 70 year old hag I'm going to teepee every tree at the old folks home.

For dark Coffee: Use dark roast beans, or espresso, I use Starbucks or iLLY Italian beans, I grind them fine, i use One heaping tablespoon of coffee for Each 8 ounce cup of boiling water, and I let it brew for 4 Minutes exactly, let it go anymore and it's bitter, French Press coffee is the best, I learned this recipe in Europe 1994 Never went back to a drip pot . No Comparison to other pots. I use a DOUBLE Wall Glass French PRESS, NO METAL.

In Finland our ”traditional” coffee is made like this except we put the grounds directly into the kettle and strain it with a small strainer when we pour it into the cup. We use pre-ground coffee though because whole beans are way too expensive here considering how much coffee Finns drink 😄 Our family brewed coffee like this up until the early 2000s. I still think it’s the best tasting coffee one can find!

It's an art. I have a cup first thing each morning. Boil water. Pre-heat the press. What does that mean? Bloom?
@hotajax
@hotajax 2 жыл бұрын
@@JaneDoe-vi5yc "Bloom" means an extra step in the extraction process. Lets say you have your ground beans in the press, and a pot of hot water. You simply add a small amount of hot water to the beans, just barely covering the beans, and the water foams up on the beans and makes a nice froth. You let that sit like that for a minute or so. Then you pour in the rest of your water, and give it all a QUICK stir. Do not stir too much, or you will knock down all the froth. Let that all sit for 4 mins or so, then pour it into your cup GENTLY so you can preserve the froth. The froth is delicious. Thank me later.😁

Press is the only way to make a coffee lovers dream, although I tend to add 3 or 4 scoops instead of 1 or 2, for that luxuriously dark cup.
@thrash208
@thrash208 4 жыл бұрын
I add about 1tbs per cup. But I typically don't pay attention to the temperature I just boil, stir, set for about 4 minutes then press.
@PK-jg3vu
@PK-jg3vu 4 жыл бұрын
@@thrash208 I used to roiling boil but feel it's too hot, so now I get the water to where steam is starting to come off the top, just enough to sting the finger but not burn quickly, add about 4 full scoops, assuming tbsp that comes with most French press models, and do the similar 4 minute rest after stirring thoroughly. Gevalia Majestic Dark or Lavazza espresso roast.

I honestly had no idea about the ratio of coffee grounds (1 tbsp) to water (4 oz), or that it had to be stirred, or the amount of time to wait after stirring (4 min). Thank you!

Question- is it necessary to warm up the carafe? Is that just so the glass doesn’t crack when adding the hot water?
@Frenchpresscoffeelove
@Frenchpresscoffeelove 5 жыл бұрын
Great question. Not it's not necessary. But it will help to make Temp consistent plus coffee will stay hot longer. In French Press usually tempered glass so it will not crack from temp difference
