When wood is heated it releases a few different types of flammable gases, I use a homemade gasifier to extract these gases out of the wood, I first run the gas through a condenser coil to condense any steam and tar out of the gas, I then use a bubble filter to catch that water and tar and it also helps in filtering out some of the unwanted smoke, next the gas runs through a homemade filter to remove the last of the unwanted byproducts, The wood gas then runs directly into the air intake on the 25cc engine.
This was only my first test. It seems the wood was a bit wet and I also didn't let the gasifier stay hot long enough, this caused the gas production to be very inconsistent and the engine to only run for a few minutes at a time.
I will do a second test at some point, subscribe so you don't miss it.
Thanks for watching :)

I'm impressed. You can incorporate the design into a wood stove and use it cook food and generate power; then put it a tiny house and go off grid!! 😁❤👍👍👍👍

Very nice, enjoyed seeing a gasifier project. A few things I would say on how you can modify/improve. •Try adding peltier modules to the casing oven to drive a fan to allow for more heat. •upgrade the canister to a larger container for more gasification. •keep the water colder to allow for more dense gas and also in joint with the peltier module. •make sure the wood is more dry and broken in down But other than that great project.

Mostly it is carbon monoxide gas, colorless, odorless and highly TOXIC. Be careful. They used this "wood gas " in Europe during and after WW 2 because petro was in short supply.

Just my 2 cents worth but, a small 4 stroke uses less wood gas and the cooling air from the 4 stroke could provide cooling air to your wood gas condenser. All in all, great results! Keep going, it is a great effort on your part. I realize you used what was at hand, something from nothing. I hope many people can contribute $ to your effort.

That's actually a really cool updraft gasifier. With a few modifications over by the carburetor, you could turn into a downdraft gasifier. That way you can keep feeding it fuel while the engine is running.

Kade it is more efficient. I know about conservation of energy, the thing is that blowing a fire causes more wood to burn in exchange for more energy released in the form of heat. It's the wood fire equivalent of installing a turbo in your car

Cool video, The Germans were doing this more than 70 years ago. Due to the fossil fuel shortages during and after World War 2, people in Germany, and other European countries, converted many of their cars, trucks and other vehicles to run on wood gas. They also made production cars that were powered by wood gas, using a gasifier that was mounted in the front or back of the car, fed with ordinary firewood and had pipes to transfer the singe gases into the combustion chambers of the engine. I found out about this a few years back and was surprised it even existed. It is amazing to think they used external combustion, to produce a fuel that was immediately consumed by an internal combustion engine! It is a great solution in extreme times. Essentially, a car like that would almost never run out of fuel, as long as there some combustible biomass laying around!

A tidy setup like this should tour the country. Especially on earth day or at state fairs. The thing that helps most is seeing it be assembled with easily available parts. Even if a part is hard to find or imagine a substitute a presenter could hock that part to the audience to help him fund his tour. Assembled systems could be sold for more than the parts. Heck, assemble one show it works. Sell it. Assemble another. Repeat. Take orders when run out of parts.(I thought of using brake line instead of copper pipe. I went with threaded lamp conduit instead to get started. Will see if I can get mine to work too!)

I’m genuinely curious if this is more or less efficient than just using the heat to power a steam turbine. I know the concept of the video is showing that you can use wood gas but it would be interesting to see if a diy steam turbine could be built just as easy and be able to measure the effectiveness of transferring the heat energy into electrical energy

Heh, heh! Fun!~ I liked it! Now I'm imagining a really big gassifier with wood gas stored under pressure in a balloon. I suspect that the engine uneven operation was from inadequate gas supply. 12 volt led and compact florescent lights are readily available, you could eliminate the inverter inefficiencies, although I suspect that making 120 VAC was part of the idea. Creative job making your lines and hoses work --- making the fittings function. All in all, I'd give that an A+ grade for a first effort! Can't wait to see wood gas generator 1.2, or perhap[s 2.o

with modern materials, efficient LPG, butane and even diesel burners, electronic temp, pressure and torque controls I can see steam as being a very clean, powerful and viable option for everyday transport. I've toyed with the idea of a tri or quadbrid system where diesel is used for ice drive/ charge and steam drive/ charge system as a retrofit to an existing car but the platform needs to be completely unique and very different to a common car today. they just don't have the available space to mount anything without serious cutting and refab so a beach buggy version is my best start point so far. the doble brothers pretty much had it sussed just as steam faded out but modern tech and materials are far superior to what was available to them in that era.

Post-WW2, in Germany, I think they were powering their automobiles on wood-gas and on TV many years ago they were doing the same on buses in Vietnam. While the scheme worked, one of the drawbacks was the engines tended to overheat as there wasn't the cooling effect of gasoline. On another point, it might be worth looking up the relevant chemistry. I don't mean to spread unnecessary alarm but carbon monoxide might be a constituent so take care and use only in situations of very good ventilation - never in an enclosed space. Best regards...
