Linda, I have mixed emotions on tip #4. Currently, I am a college student, and on our campus, we have a professional development/ career development center. And the thing they always tell us is that the resume should include enough details to get the point across for what you can do at this job, what have you done in the past that makes this position applicable. They tell us to never flood the resume with everything we do. ANd they usually follow that by saying include a link to your LinkedIn where you can write all of that information. From working in the industry a few years now, I also can't say I agree with tip #4. Numerous hires have told me they liked both my Resume and LinkedIn, and I have the opposite from what's described. What do you think?

Some tips are good. I like that she has reasons for her preferences. Requesting recommendations and updating the profile are great starting tips. At the same time, there’s a lot of expectation placed on the recruiter here. They aren’t going to search extra to find me if it’s easier to learn about someone else.

Hey Maryam, I feel you. That's why I asked a LinkedIn Recruiter to join me for an interview and we discuss all kinds of options (with and without professional experience) in a much "in detail" video on my channel. If you are a fresh graduate one of the first things you need to do is underline your best courses in the university and also all additional extracurricular activities that you have been doing. Also, following the principles we discuss in the video, like professional photo, great summary, added skills and connecting with other professionals on LinkedIn will help you stand out even without the experience. Good Luck!

Nice video Linda, a lot of good tips but let me disagree on the details to include in the career description. You're right, there is a resume that can explain well what we are doing and what we did, but that should be max 1 to 2 pages lenght... and sometimes it's not enough, the risk is to annoy the HR if you exceed that size. On the other side, LinkedIn gives you a sort of first shoot of your experience and accademic path, then if the visitor wants more details, he can simply click and have access to the full story. This is my way to see how we can include the job or university career in LinkedIn and CV, but this is just my view. ;)

Nicely done, Linda! Fantastic insight! As a corporate image consultant, I tell my clients and audiences that now days more often than not first impressions are made online versus face-to-face. We typically Google someone before we are going to meet them. And speaking of that, be sure you Google yourself as well to make sure what comes up is what you want associated with your name. Again, great tips, Linda!

Why should I wear a jacket and tie? I find that wearing more relatable clothing choices seems to resonate more so for the type of work I do. My career is more focused on maintenance management and a “suit” is not really warranted. I would suggest focusing on two things, the career occupation and the types of companies you will want to work for. If I’m in a more strict profession then I would agree with this suggestions made for the picture in the video.

Love your comment "get over that fear and ask for those recommendations" - so true - you don't ask you don't get. But remember to give as well as receive. I recently wrote 10 recommendations for my team - took a few hours but worth it. Besides it's good karma right? I'm also tackling LinkedIn tips on my channel as I do feel people still aren't using it to it's potential.

Tip no 4, if you're job title doesn't do justice for the work you've actually done, would you break this tip and give them a glimpse by adding more bullet points? I'm working for a startup and have done work improving process and not just customer service
@violet.c
@violet.c 6 жыл бұрын
Generally I agree, except for the 4th tip - it is CV that should be short & sweet, not LinkedIn profile. CVs are often printed and they can be 1, max 2 pages long. The profile, however, can be more elaborated, because it's online. On LinkedIn I still stick to short sentences in bullet points in the job descriptions for the sake of readability. It should be easy to scan, I agree with that. But you can take as much space as you want, it's not a sheet of paper.

I highly recommend adding a custom cover image to your LinkedIn profile to STAND OUT from the crown 😊When designing this, just keep in mind that the placement of your profile photo is different on mobile and desktop, so you'll want to make sure that the important information on your LinkedIn background image (such as call-to-actions, contact details etc.) do not GET HIDDEN by your profile picture 😉

@LindaRaynier 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, I would recommend putting a title that is similar to the type of role that you're applying for, specifically if you also have the same experience. So if you're looking for a "Co-ordinator" type of position, then use that on your resume. If you don't have the same title, then use a title that you held that most resembles the position you'd like to apply for. Hope that helps!
