Great but I thought you meant an actual looper pedal rather than an effects loop pedal - interesting!

We gotta do something about the ambiguous looper-looper terminology in guitar pedals.

"Loop selector" would be an appropriate term?

Thanks for hooking it up to show how you hook it up and how it works. I have less and less time to myself these days so I bought one someone else made. I bought it from a company called Saturnworks out of California. Same thing as yours without the led. Great for making any non true bypass pedal true bypass. I use mine just to get my Boss SD-1 out of the chain when I’m not using it. I have a dedicated buffer pedal at the front so I don’t want a Boss buffer right after it. I wish these pedals were invented years ago too. I sold a lot of non true bypass pedals that I wish I still had today. Thanks again for the video.

probably a stupid question, but why can’t a send return looper pedal be a passive wired switch? so it won’t need 9v supply. like if you only give up on an LED. thanks
@homebuiltshop
@homebuiltshop 9 ай бұрын
It absolutely could. Like you said, it just wouldn't have the LED. I'm pretty sure I've seen wiring diagrams for that.

Great build! I built myself one with two loops, so that when off, the signal goes to loop A, and when on, the signal goes to loop B. Theres is no "no loop" option. As you suggested, I simply duplicated the circuit. But I have a problem: I couldn't get around grounding the two loops separeately. As a result, what pedals I have on one loop will affect the tone of the other loop in a perceptible way. For example, if I have in loop A a non true bypass pedal that causes tone bleed, that tone bleed will occur also on loop B even when only loop B is selected. I suspect the problem is in sharing the ground connection. Any ideas on how to wire this properly? Thanks. Congratulations for your channel!

Is there a reason this pedal couldn’t be passive? Without the need for a 9v?

Do you feel that pedals are going obsolete in this day in age? Do you feel that more musicians are using the computer setup like you use? I get that what you use now is a pedal board almost like a processor but you setup all your different sounds on the computer and then download them into the pedal board, so you only have to click one switch to get the sound you want for a specific song. So is the loop pedal a cheaper format then what you use now?
@homebuiltshop
@homebuiltshop 4 жыл бұрын
I think they each have their place. If I had my choice I'd choose my pedals over my processor. I do like the processor for cover band stuff because I can keep the rig nice and small. The disadvantage I see with it is that its harder to adjust on the fly if I need to. With a pedal, I can just twist a knob and adjust as needed. While there are so many sweet processors out there now, I don't feel pedals are going anywhere.

Hello! Very interesting video! I'm going to make a loop pedal to shunt my Boss RC30 (Thanks to your help). I will probably use a 4PDT in order to simultaneously shut off the RC30 power when it'is not in use. Question : Into the loop pedals finded in the market, is the power supply only used for the LED ?? No extra sophisticated electronic components ?? (If not, it's amazing in regard to the selling price...) Best wishes from France for the new year!
@homebuiltshop
@homebuiltshop 2 жыл бұрын
Happy New Year! I think for many of the loopers on the market the power supply is for the lights. I don't know if every single one is like that, but if its just a basic looper its probably only powering the lights. This one I made could easily be scaled up to contain however many switches you need and the power supply would only power the lights. Its pretty simple really.
@p.g.pg38
@p.g.pg38 2 жыл бұрын
@@homebuiltshop Thank you for your answer! I looked carefully at your diagram: to power on my RC30 only when the pedal is activated, I just have to connect the + wire on the + 9v input (on the long leg of the LED) and the - wire on the 3PDT where the resistor arrives. So a 3PDT is enough. No need for a 4PDT.

I finally got around to building one of these. I have been meaning to do this for a long time. Now I have to rearrange my pedal board. Which I am in the middle of building. It is a little to hot here in Texas right now to get out in the shop to do things, so It will have to wait. Keep the videos coming.

@@homebuiltshop I used a larger pedal box. It was one that I had built a "Kill Switch" in. Just had to add the Send and Receive jacks and wiring. I would add a picture but I guess we can't do that on KZbin.

Hi. I have a question. What if you put a pedal before de looper and then you turn both on? Does the looper turn off the previous one? For instance, if the signal chain is guitar - overdrive - looper - delay - amp, and all of them are turned on, does the looper prevent the overdrive from working, or not necessarily? Nice review btw.
@homebuiltshop
@homebuiltshop 4 жыл бұрын
If the OD is before the looper, when you engage the loop, the overdrive signal would be routed through the delay or whatever is in the loop. It does not turn off anything before the looper. Its like an effects loop, whatever you send into the loop will be modified by what is in the loop.

Just made one of these. One issue I had was the input and output line is buzzing. I noticed you didn’t seem to use any flux, I did. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Also noticed when I plugged in the 9v adapter it would only buzz but when it was shared with a 9v chain it wouldn’t. I also used a lot more resisters than you. I think it’s either something with the input outputs or the LED 9v. Any advice?

Have you tried with a battery? Sometimes there is noise with an unsuitable power supply and zero noise with a 9v battery ...

Great video! I am probably going to build one for myself following along. However, this is a line selector, not a looper. A "looper" records what you play and plays it back endlessly.

I'm familiar with the playback loopers as well. While researching wiring diagrams for these, I found that most of these are also called loopers, or "True Bypass Loopers". I went back and forth on what to call it. Lol. Its a fun project though.
