Thank you as always for taking the time to share the step by step tips - it's a really cute box! This is a lovely project. I appreciate you encouraging us not to be afraid of the bottom not being perfectly square because it actually turned out to be a cute accent and I absolutely love how you constructed the lid (who'd thunk it?!). I can easily see how this box can be turned into a whimsical box, a lantern of sorts for Halloween, or a fairy house.

So sorry for not seeing this comment sooner and replying. Thank you! I really like that you took the video/project and then made it your own by changing the size. I think that is great! Starting from the left: Amaco Ancient Copper, Clayscapes Pacific Blue, Amaco Tourmaline, Amaco Indigo Float, Clayscapes Clinton Pottery Red. They are all good at showing texture which I think is key. @@vickieblair2160 I don't have a video showing how I glaze the lid. You have 2 options. @BerfDerkel5 жыл бұрын
Hi Gail you can also try drawing some yourself and I think you'll make some pretty good ones if you try several times. As you can see, the top and bottom are parallel lines. Easy to draw on paper with a ruler. Your decision is how far apart to make them: this will determine the height of the container. The curves are harder because you want each curve to be the same. What I do is use some curved object like a plate or frisbee to make ONE curve. Then I fold the paper in half like you would when you cut a paper heart. This lets you copy the curve and make a perfect match to the other side. I hope this explanation makes sense. :-) Make several tries on ordinary paper until you get a good one. Then transfer it by tracing to a stiffer paper so it is usable when you place it on clay.

omg lady, you need to moisturize your hands
@clayw99054 жыл бұрын
I think your cuts on the edges need to be opposite on half of the pieces: so perform one cut on the front side, and then to form the better edge cut the next piece on the back . This will make it easier to for the seams.

They wont bulge in or out if you do that.

yes I probably do need to moisturize... bad about that. ;-)

@@clayw9905 Have you tried this yet? It works with the cuts the way I am doing them. and they do bulge out correctly. Feel free to try using the cuts the other way. Would love to hear if that works for you and how different the box looks.

Where do you get what you call slip
@andreaakeribpottery2 жыл бұрын
I make it by mixing dry clay water and toilet paper. The fibers from the toilet paper strengthen the slip. Some people mix their slip with dry clay water and vinegar. I haven't tried that but I hear it works well.

@andreaakeribpottery4 жыл бұрын
Sorry for not responding sooner... I will have to go and measure the template and get back to you.

@@andreaakeribpottery Hi Andrea, love your videos. Feel like I know you! You refer to a larger sized box, per above question - do you have the dimensions so that I can make templates for it? Or is there a way to scale up the smaller box? Thanks in advance!
@andreaakeribpottery4 жыл бұрын
@@carolehochman5315 really sorry for not answering the previous message, life got away from me. I don't have access right now to the larger template. But the templates were just really hand drawn things I did myself. So I would think you can take the smaller dimensions and make it taller and then wider to suit what you would like. Then make the bottom and top based on the new dimensions. You can make it in paper first to see if it's the size you want. or you can just try it out in clay - which I is what I did until I found the shape and size I liked. :-) The fun part with this is you can make all different kinds of shapes with this idea. Some work, some don't. I had some shapes when I first started making this that were just awkward with too wide a top for the narrow bottom. Just play around and have fun with it. :-) Thank you so much for watching the videos and enjoying them. It's really nice to hear!
