Find a person who looks at you the way Aaron looks at Achim 😍. Great video anyway!

Mindset is absolutely everything. i’ve seen people freak out and start ripping off gear because they hooked the line on their tank valve navigating a restriction in a cave. What surmounts to little more than a minor inconvenience elevated to a major problem real quick because they were not thinking straight

I couldn't agree more with everything you guys said in this video. I did want to acknowledge though that everyone has to start somewhere. Beginner classes should be just that... beginner, whether it's OW or intro to tech. Comfort and calmness in difficult situations comes from practice and loads of water time, knowing your equipment. I don't think that an instructor should have an expectation that the beginner should be completely comfortable with every situation when they have very little time in the water with the equipment they are being taught on. It's a catch 22 when you need to be safe and to do things the proper way but you also need a lot of water time. You can't really get that water time safely without the training. The expectation of skill level should rise as the diver advances through higher levels of training and more water time. You don't become a badass diver the day after training, you take the skills you learned in training and practice practice practice.

Diving is first a mental game second a physical game and lastly a fun game. You need the mental attitude first because you have to expect issues and be able to deal with them. To me it is more important to have the right mental attitude before higher levels of fitness because even if fit panics is going to leave you at more risk of mistake’s. Secondly fitness it will make the dive more relaxing the fitter you are but fitness alone can not overcome a bad mental attitude and panic. Lastly fun if all your dives are fun you are more relaxed you are also diving within your limits, within your comfort zone which should reduce stress and thus the risk of panic. Great video as usual I do wish the training agencies would put more emphasis on stress, panic and mental attitude. I think I am a very fortunate diver I used to be a life guard in my youth and learnt how to deal with extremely stressful, situations. I loved being underwater and back then was extremely fit, I could swim just over 90 meters underwater no snorkel or fins and even when on my absolute limit would not panic ( was put under that test once by an idiot and zero panic ) for me going underwater is one of the most relaxing de-stressing things I can do in a very stressful world. Please keep the videos coming,

Brilliant video as always Achim. State of mind is definitely very important to react safely to unexpected situations in diving. I had quite a few dives under my belt and was a very confident diver but had one bad experience when I panicked on my 30M Advanced OW dive, as I was drinking heavily the night before (on holiday abroad) and felt very ill and jittery. The instructor and my buddy had swam far ahead and left me forgetting to look back or stick together, I was looking down into an endless hole off a cliff edge using crappy rental gear at 30 metres, nerves took over and I freaked out. The dive was booked and it was my last day on holiday, I wanted to pass the AOW so I went anyway. Its made me feel nervous underwater since and I don't have the same confidence I used to so I'm trying to figure out a way to get it back. Sticking to shallow dives for now.

make your way back...incrementally...do not be in a hurry...anybody that rushes you, or ignores you, do not dive with them again..that's all

The "playing around" factor is huge. Want to learn to drive in snow? Parking lot to "play" that's how alot of people learn to get out of a bad situation
