I like the pink one the best. It looks like a flower blooming. I think the satin stitch around the edges helped make the look.

A fantastic project once again Christine, perhaps using pinking shears would have allowed the curves to be more consistent. I love the concept and hope to try making a basket. Many thanks for sharing the pattern , tips and flaws.

Hi Christine. I am currently in the process of making a woven basket pattern I purchased that is the same concept as the pattern you have created here, but a little more involved (more arms = more weaving = more zig zag stitching). I am happy to see you are sharing, in great detail 😊, how we can make our own pattern for the adorable hexagon bowl you have designed here! It is perfect & I am excited to say I will soon be giving your pattern a go! I want to thank you for also sharing what you would do better as it helps your viewers in their future hexi bowl sewing project. Love that your bowl is only 6 rounded petals & offer storage as well. Very clever Christine! 😊Thank you for sharing! ❤

I have never seen a round ruler (like the one you used in this video) before. The ones sold here are only half of a circle. I have wondered how to draw a hexagon myself that was perfect (in any size I want). You just showed us how to do that. I may try making one on a cold day when school is out. It would be a wonderful snow day project. I have been putting some kits together for future locked in sewing. This would be a good one.

If you have an equilateral (60 degree) ruler, you can use that. The hexagon is six wedges (with shared sides) from the triangle ruler. It works just like the 6 wedge kaleidescope quilt.

Very helpful explaining how to draft a pattern for these hexi bowls, also how to assemble the arms. I think you could hand stitch blanket stitch along the top curves, as a decorative feature without continuing along the complete arm length. If you wanted a deeper bowl, could you extend the arm measurement by an inch ? Or would that ruin the design ? Love the outer pink fabric, on the smaller bowl, hope you persevered and it finished nicely.
@ChristinesHomeAffairs

Thanks Fiona. Yes, I think you could extend the arms to make it taller, and blanket stitching is a great idea😀

I’ve seen templates for purchase for these types of baskets and thought they were really cute, but rarely purchase patterns as that cuts into my profits (and I’m chea….er….frugal😉) I’ve thought about trying to make a template myself, now you’ve shown me the way. I’m wondering how this might work with upholstery fabric? Let us know if you give that a go. As always, thanks Christine for another great video. Cathy from Nevada ❤

Another great video from you. I look forward to all your tips and tricks. I do have a tip for you though. Instead of hand sewing the buttons, set your zigzag width to fit the buttons holes ( most buttonholes are a standard width apart) and set the length to almost 0. Similar to a satin stitch. Check your domestic machine to see if it has a buttonhole stitch ( many have some sort of buttonhole stitch or attachment) then the machine will "knot" the end or leave long tails to knot when done stitching. Once you set it up, sewing on those buttons will go so fast you'll wonder why you ever hand sew buttons to your projects. Look forward to how you resurrect that pink basket.

Once again I'm in AHHHH, you are so creative. I would also be up for some smaller projects for the stiffer batting. I make filters for a water catchment company (we are all on wells or cisterns) and I take a 36" square and cut out darts to make a coffee filter like shape, hence, I have lots of pieces that I can't bare to throw away. I have been making wristlet key fobs buttttt, I have made over 600 filters this year sooo. I do however, take some of them and butt them together and fuse a strip of light/med weight interfacing on it to hold them together and it does work as well as using fusible bond to make it fuse to the fabrics. Great way to use up the scraps. Keep them coming.😄

Thanks Judi. How do the key fobs go for you? I've only made a few so far😁

I'm thinking fabric glue for the buttons, since they are decorative only. The small one, possibly use the 2 sided fusible and as someone suggested the edge stitch, then the fabric glue for the buttons and the petals. Fun project, thanks

Why, when you're sewing them together, do you go all the way across to the arm on the other side, instead of turning at the point of the V, thus not sewing across the middle? Does it matter about the middle?
