Barlows in Richardson (Dallas) TX has a great online parts catalog for lure making...all types of spinnerblade types including the above...I don't like dealing with liquid lead, so their parts selection is awesome...

One tip I might add is use a knife to clear the excess powder paint on the hook tie. When you use pliers you can mar the hook tie and you can get line breakage at the knot. Great video!!

another trick is to use a brush and put just a bit more (powder paint) on the head in front of the eye, that way when it bakes it encapsulates the end of the eye really good.

I'm gonna experiment with "Pull Weight", because i did buy the items in the vid, except the hooks, i got the curved eye loop, which i'll experiment with. But i'm curious what the Pull Strength would be for that "Underspin Loop" since it doesn't appear to insert into the eye of the hook you use. I'm used to bending wires, so like i said i'll experiment but really great vid and clear image makes the world of difference. Gonna scope out the red craw vid next :)

I'm having a significant problem after about pouring and power coating about 35 heads. The extra lead under the eye was cleaned with an Ignition Point File. The problem is that after placing the blade on the eye I'm now not able to close the eye far enough to PREVENT the blade from slipping out of the space between the eye wire and the jig body. I tried to close the eye with pliers and that caused the powder coat to show marks from the pliers. I then tried using a small hammer and placing the jig on a wooden table and the eye still is open. I'm quite frustrated and don't know how to close the eye. Any help would be appreciated.

I’ve placed the hook and baitkeeper in the mold and placed the mold on a table, then I hit the mold with a deadblow mallet. The mold will create an indent of the baitkeeper

@foxriversmallyslayer44573 жыл бұрын
How/ with what did you modify the mold to take the bait keeper with.
@BaitMakingChannel3 жыл бұрын
I'll do a short video on it, but I laid the hook in the mold and put the bait keeper right next to it, then took a deadblow hammer (similar to a small plastic sledge hammer) and hit the mold on the metal a couple times. This created an indent where both will lay now side by side. This isn't probably the "right" or "best" way to modify a mold, but it works

Do you think there's a way to make a chatter bait for vertically jigging? I fish lake trout using a vertical presentation. Lake Trout often love to chase lures retrieved straight up. I imagine dropping a 2 oz jig 100 feet then straight retrieving it will get them to chase. Any suggestions? Just found your channel....loving it
@BaitMakingChannel Жыл бұрын
That’s a great question and something I’ve never thought of. The Berkley vibrato or a blade bait is the closest thing I can think of but obviously there’s no skirt on those
@matthewbeckwith663 Жыл бұрын
@@BaitMakingChannel I do make my own blade baits, so they're definitely a good option for my situation. My lure crafting journey, shall we call it, began with fly tying. I strictly fly fished for 10 years, but then made my way back to spinning gear once I struggled with the limitations of fly gear on a kayak. I started tying hair jigs, then moved onto spinner baits and blade baits. I love tying jigs, hence my desire to find a way to build a hair jig that's 2-3 oz and incorporates a blade for vibration. Now my brain is stuck on chatterbaits and scrounger jig heads.
@BaitMakingChannel Жыл бұрын
@@matthewbeckwith663 I've seen guys fish 1oz chatterbaits in 20+ fow, so I'm sure you could utilize a bigger bait and get it even deeper. I think your journey is really cool. As I get into this more and more, I'm getting to the point where now I'm tying flies/marabou jigs, so it's interesting to hear your path into lure making
