How to make a jar ecosystem (easy)

I recommend putting springtails and isopod. Also I recommend using a terrarium substrate

Agreed. Without springtails those plants are gonna quickly rot and be a complete mess. They also probably should add some mesh to prevent the soil/substrate from mixing with the rocks/drainage layer. Another suggestion is to sterilize the bark using boiling water to prevent unwanted pests, man these people don’t know much about terrarium building

@@karsyn2krazy springtails can be found in very wet soils and isopods (useful but not necessarily) are found under logs, leafs, dry soil and the logs and the leaves have to be moist

A bit late but next time grab spring tails they can remove mold outbreaks by eating it then pooping out as fertilizer for you plants.

BTW if you want you can add river water pond water etc to the container and you add pill bugs due to them only living in humid places

Im not sure on this but i think you need to add a thin layer of something with holes in between the rocks and soil but i havent made a ecosystem i just saw it on a vid.

Yes, keep the lid open. Mine didn't do too well as I kept the lid on

Lid goes on and stays on, sealed airtight, for years.... That's the entire point. Sometimes the tank may seem to die off. Don't open it, it will stabilize. It needs light, that's it.

@@hippiehillape than what about water 💧 like how we gonna give them water if we close the lid.... Also small animals will not be able to survive with limited oxygen I guess we should open it periodically..

@@oshii-cj1is The water is evaporated and condenses on the jar, it drips back down watering the plants. The plants will photosynthesise if put in the light, they take in the Carbon Dioxide in the jar and turn it into oxygen that the animals can respire. So you shouldn't need to open it at all :)
