This video genuinely helped me. When I first saw this video last week, I was ~2 days away from uploading a video I had spent probably 100+ hours on, more than any other video on my channel. After watching this, I realized my intro was not good at all. The line where you talked about how people know how much work their own videos are, but their audience doesn't, so the intro has to sell them on it, really resonated. At the last moment I brainstormed a new thumbnail/title/intro combo following a lot of what you described in this video, and it turned out to be a 1/10 and have the highest audience retention at the 30 second mark I've ever had. So thank you!

One thing you didn't mention, which I think makes it a bit easier to create the intro... I have a background in TV production with hundreds of 10-15min TV features under my belt. And what we always did was to create and edit the intro LAST. We spent days editing a killer 15min video and only then sat down to create the intro. Because by then we knew our footage, the story arc, the best and worst parts and everything else inside out - and only if you know it inside out can you create the perfect intro. Wouldn't it be a shame to spend a lot of time to edit a killer intro only to then spend days trying to match the expectation in the rest of the video while realizing that the story you promised in the intro was never there? So in short: edit your video first, then edit your intro. Saves you time and nerves.

I re-watch this video every time I'm writing a new video script.. here's my hook intro checklist based on this video: 1. Intriguing title and thumbnail to get the click 2. Mirror the thumbnail and repeat the title in the first 5 seconds to tell viewers they're in the right place 3. Create open loops in the viewers mind - (eg: create a 3 step formula or blur something out) 4. Provide context (what is it, why are you doing it, what's at stake) 5. Exceed expectations by using input bias (show the viewers that you've spent a lot of time, money, effort on the video) 6. Make the intro visually appealing for KZbin auto-play without sound (front load the stimulus) 7. Love the process

This is fantastic advice. For real, I will be going back to this video when I need a reminder. Like, I never really considered the importance of input bias, but it makes SO much sense. And I realize a lot of my best performing videos accidentally conveyed the input bias. This video is amazing overall, no take away from all the hard work you put in here. Just one thing, I wish you didn't take most of your intro from Jon Doman. Edited. Also portion of the description, and some structural elements of the video. You really didn't have to do any of that, you already have the talent to make your own amazing video. Now that I discovered all of this, it just puts into question the rest of your channel's authenticity. How much of your content and knowledge is yours? How much was taken or "inspired" by other creators?
@AprilynneAlter Жыл бұрын
Yep, took a lot from Jon! I have that in the description, too :) one of the tips that are often given to newer/smaller KZbinrs is to emulate the style of others, to help you find your own! My goal for this video was to make a Jon Dorman-like video (love his style!) specifically focused on intros. His video about KZbin videos as a whole was great, and I thought I could add a lot when it came to info about intros themselves! I appreciate the feedback though, and I'll definitely take that into consideration for my next video. Thank you!

@@AprilynneAlter The problem is, everyone in this comment section thinks that you're the original creator. They'd have to read the description to know it's heavily inspired. And when you reply to praises about your intro, you neglect to mention it was inspired. Anyways, just pointing out what's against my own belief as a creator myself. The rest of your video was AMAZING on its own, you really didn't need to take inspiration as much as you did. And since you did, you should give proper recognition to the original creator.

I hope that my pauses to capture the ideas don't penalize this video. ❤

Here before this video blows up 🚀 first time viewer here thanks for the useful tips going to rewatch tmrw and take some notes for my next video, ur absolutely right some videos blow up outta nowhere haha 😂 btw I have one tip for your ending that I learned from Nate Blacks channel last week...when you give too many calls to action like comment subscribe etc psychologically the viewer will check out and is less likely to do any of them. Great vid btw and i couldnt agree more enjoying the process is half the battle. Instant sub 👍

Thank you so much for the feedback and for the kind words! In future videos, the main CTA is usually going to be to watch a different video, but I appreciate you calling it out 👏
@VladimirKostek Жыл бұрын
@AprilynneAlter Yess, I've been trying to incorporate that as well... creating your own watch loops, so simple but effective and I'm sure KZbin loves it too ultimately they want to keep viewers on for longer! It would be fascinating to know what sort of retention and drop-off you got on the intro of this vid 😉

I ignore all commands of that kind. It comes across as rude. I acknowledge all comments because I’m thankful for their time shared with me. If someone among those commenters invites me to their channel, I check it out. That’s what builds a little community. Just one opinion. Obviously youtube works differently. It can’t work if you have a zillion subs.
@VladimirKostek Жыл бұрын
@LilyGazou Yea good point. I try not to ask for subs either. I find that providing value in the comments and responding to questions is helpful.

Love the break down and logic that went into this video. I've heard channels talk about title and thumbnail first 1,000 times, but never with this level of detail/importance. It brings a new perspective that can relate to *any* channel, not just the hyper trend ones. Thank you :)

I’ve decided to pick up social media again just a few weeks ago and even though I’ve now chosen the lifestyle niche, I will do my best to apply all these tips! This is the best and clearest video I’ve watched regarding the matter. Thanks for being concise and I wish you all the growth ❤️

🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 01:09 🧠 Craft a compelling title and thumbnail (TNT) before creating your video, as viewers decide to watch based on these elements. 02:19 📸 In the first five seconds of your video, match your first sentence with your title and your first shot with your thumbnail to engage and retain viewers. 04:10 🕒 Structure your intro by creating curiosity gaps, providing context, and leveraging input bias to exceed viewer expectations. 08:05 🎥 Show, don't just tell, in your intro by using captivating visuals, and pay attention to pacing to keep viewers engaged before they click away. 10:25 🚀 Focus on key elements: title and thumbnail, first five seconds, structure, visuals, and pacing, to create a killer KZbin intro and enhance your channel's success.

Wow, this video really breaks down the art of creating a killer KZbin intro in such a detailed and comprehensive way! The emphasis on the importance of nailing the title and thumbnail right from the start is eye-opening. I never realized how crucial those first few seconds are in capturing the audience's attention and setting the tone for the entire video. And the insights into creating curiosity gaps, providing context, and leveraging input bias are incredibly valuable. I'll definitely be applying these tips to my own channel. Thanks for sharing this insightful breakdown...

Here is a wild idea for 2024: Start doing content for your subscribers and not for the algorithm, and anything else will fall in place. The most successful channels at the moment don't create thumbnails anymore, don't edit their videos, and upload up to one hour of RAW material of them working out, fishing, or riding a motorcycle on the track. Be 100 % authentic, be 100 % you, and whatever you do: DON'T USE AI VOICEOVERS! Forget about the algorithm and follow your passion.

Second, I took a screenshot of your current subscriber count as I subscribed, because I’m convinced it won’t be long when you have a couple million subs, and I can say “I’ve followed ApriLynn since she had 32k subs”! Everyone never mentions the most important aspect that has to exist before the title and thumbnail. And that is impressions. Without impressions no one sees the thumbnail. I wish these helper type videos would dive into impressions and how to increase them.
