how thick does the leather stiffener need to be?
@VasileandPavel2 ай бұрын
I use a stiffener called PITEX, I use PITEX 650 (1.5mm thickness). You can find PITEX on Etsy.

On the plan, the straps that hold down the top of the backpack don't have any stitching holes laid out. But, in the photos of the completed backpack, those straps and clearly stitched. Is this just an oversight, or has the design changed?

hi is it possible to find out how far apart the stitching holes are, I am buying some tools for this build?
@VasileandPavel9 ай бұрын
most of the holes are from 5 to 5 mm but on the cover of the backpack are a few holes with a different distance (where I made box stitching)

PITEX is a lining rigid material. You can find PITEX on Etsy.com. Texon is also good but in every country there is a good stiffener for leather

If a person used saddle thickness leather do you figure he wouldn’t need the stiffening material?
@VasileandPavel2 жыл бұрын
if you have a good gouge and you can make precise cuts in all those places where the leather bends, yes. But it's easier with stiffener and lining. When i made the design for this backpack, i knew i will line it.

Also, to be clear...You punch through all layers for the side strap buckles, but not for the back upper attachment points where the D rings are located?
@VasileandPavel Жыл бұрын
the pattern have all the holes needed but because I work with glue and I have very good punches (sharp and with a very long active part), i can make holes in 12mm leather. It is easier than to match all those pieces. My problem is that I made so many leather objects and i tried so many different tehniques that I can't be consistent.

what is stiffener ? What is it made of ?

I use PITEX but you can use texon, talyn and other stiffeners, they are different in different countrues. PITEX us ysed in shoes industry

Why isn't the liner in the pockets continuous like in the main body of the bag? I'd think you'd want it to be as sealed as possible so as not to get particles between the corners.
@VasileandPavel Жыл бұрын
i want to control where the leather bends. It will be strong, don't worry.
