You know, if you watch the leather youtubers, you did about every step wrong. That said, this goes to show there is no right way because the end result was great. I was impressed. I have to admit when you trimmed the sheath with the band saw my head almost exploded, but after it was trimmed with the beveller, it looks wonderful. Nice work without a million dollars in specialty leather tools.

I’ve been doing much the same way for years but feel like I can still learn from watching others. Your steady hand and confidence is inspiring and the final product looks great. What type of thread was that? My wax threads all seem to break a lot and I don’t know if it’s me or them.

Thank you. This is the waxes thread from Tandy. Its very strong and won’t break when being pulled on. I’ve had others that break when I pull real hard.

I'm having a problem with sheaths letting go of my knives. I have a couple shaped like this that the knives just fall right out of when doing something as simple as sitting down and standing up. Or squatting to pick up a log. Or climbing a tree. I can't trust them at all. I even have one with a retention strap that the knife slides out of as it works it's way passed the strap. I lost a $150 knife this way. I've gotten to the point where I carry my knives in sealed pockets on my backpack instead of carrying them on my belt. It makes using them very inconvenient, but I don't constantly have to hunt for my knives. Have you come up with any innovative solutions in your sheath designs to help keep the knife in the sheath under vigorous outdoor bushcraft use?

@HensleyHandmadeKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question. What I do isent really Innovative but it sure works. First you need a quality leather sheath. Good leather. After you have that you need to wetform the sheath to the knife like shown in the video. This will harden up the leather in the shape of the knife and will hold it for a very long time

hey Mark , if your sheath is something other than the veg -tan leather i.e.bison or some other leather that is pre tanned with salts man they wont take the water to form up well at all ...i didn't know what kind of leather ya was working with good luck...

How fast do you go through stamps using a metal hammer to tool? The tips of them look pretty beat up. Do you not own a poly or rawhide mallet?
@HensleyHandmadeKnives
@HensleyHandmadeKnives 3 жыл бұрын
Im not worried about it. If need be I grind down the ends. I haven’t had to replace anything, and I like using a metal hammer because i think it makes a deeper impression on the leather. Thanks for the view!
