As a heads up, you could have left the gallery as you had it after throwing and then the locking disc could have been shaped like a teardrop (the technical term would be "cam"). When the knob is turned, the wider portion of the teardrop would rotate toward the middle of the lid and disengage with the gallery rim.

As always, I love your videos, you speak as your thinking and all the processes you think you may use our not come out. That was meant to be a complement, promise, it's what makes your videos so enjoyable. It may sound chaotic to you, however you work through it and to help us understand you talk us through your though process. Don't ever stop. This was a technical nightmare and you worked it out. 🎉😮😊

Sometimes it helps to make a cardboard mockup to get a "function fit" for the way it goes. That way you can see if it's right or needs an alteration. Once the mockup works properly you can then commit to the risking of clay.

I love it! I paint textured/mixed media abstract works, and my theme the past few months has been "alien artifacts from an archaeological dig on another planet," and this vessel looks like it'd fit in with everything from that theme. It's mysterious and looks ancient, but also a little extraterrestrial? I just love it.

Honestly adore this video -- the kind of joy from having a project turn out just the way you wanted is the feeling that we all chase as potters, and those high highs make all the lows (kiln disasters, uneven drying, random cracks, glaze issues) so worth it. Thanks for sharing ❤❤

As a chronic viewer of ceramic porn I had noticed Andrew's work as well. As a hand builder I have a hard time deciding whether it's worth making open topped round vessels with hand building when they're so much faster and really better done on the wheel. I really enjoyed seeing you reproduce one of these locking pots and it makes me want to reconsider hand building one.

Would be interesting to see a fusion of different styles. For example, a mixture of cardboard and high-tech, to make it seem like you fixed high-tech with cardboard, and maybe also using tape to patch a few holes and cracks (in which case you would need to carve what would seem like the tips of the hole/crack covered by tape, and you could try using some tape over actual pieces of dried clay (even if not fired), to get an idea of how it would need to look like.
