Lessons in KZbin for TAOW: Lesson 1: It's your channel Lesson 2: Never be sorry, creative ideas are what makes things beautiful even if the designs are not(hint: I luv the design). LoL! Lesson 3: It's still your channel! Seriously! That is a very creative idea of designing, building and using those creations for the benefit of all those that sub and enjoy! My uncle has a long board that's about a 1/3 longer and maybe a couple inches wider than your but I really like your design better because of those end extension to help define it and look as you say, "more 3D". Well done and look forward to your next video to this series.

when i was a lad over 50 years ago , it was cool to use roller skates the kind you attach to your sneakers find a 2x4 and attach the roller wheels with nails to each end of the 2x4 . then find an old milk crate and nail it to the board and use pop bottle corks and tack them to the milk crate for coolness , fast and lots of fun . kids don't make them anymore or play with air rifles [just air] and play cops n robbers or cowboys n indians .

Good Video Also what is your favourite longboard type
@luclachapelle80658 жыл бұрын
I made a longboard a while ago and one piece of advice would be to have an alternating grain pattern in all your layers to add some flew to the board. I know you did this on purpose, but having some flex in your board is a good thing.
@archiehurman74358 жыл бұрын
you should paint stuff on the board like casey neistat does. like an arrow and TAOW in bold letters. also you could buy some LED strips to go underneath, that would be pretty dank.
@ATrustInThrust8 жыл бұрын
Aren't led strips kinda tacky? Just personal opinion of course. Sometimes they look cool
@zachsuedmeyer25268 жыл бұрын
+LemonPie4Me If he does do L.E.D he should have included it in the base design and actually cut into the board, having them hang just below the board is tacky like you said.
@ATrustInThrust8 жыл бұрын
+zach suedmeyer that would definetely be slicker, but I dislike undercarriage lighting. I like plain wood, or painting, but just not a fan of LEDs. Like I said personal preference. It would be cool, but I don't like it on my board.
@zachsuedmeyer25268 жыл бұрын
LemonPie4Me No, no, I agree I'm not a fan of most L.E.D lighting I was just saying that if it is included it needs to be in prefab not as an add-on

Nice! And you used Paris Trucks to boot! Are those the 195´s? I use those on just about all my decks. Hella stable, great smooth linear steering response, and since the V2's, much less likely to go banana. Also, great choice on the paint. Boat laquer becomes glasshard and really tough when dried, even moreso with 3 properly prepared coats.

i made a long board a few months back and im too cheap to buy 20 quids worth of Baltic birch. so i used marine ply, this hold me and im 16 stone, i man easity bounce up and down on the board and doesnt make a noise. i also a wall paper stripper (steamer ) to add a bend in to the wood like the boosted board has. i am now saving up to buy the components to make a electric skateboard.

Looks fantastic!
@Hellsong898 жыл бұрын
As additional tip, when laminating the plywood, put the sheets into water proof container like sink or bathtub and pour in water hot as possible (In my case i let hot as the tab could give). Make sure wood is covered with water and let it sit around a 45 minutes to hour, even longer if your doing extreme (edge of breaking) bends. Take plywood off from water, swip it in air so most of the surface water flies off and quickly put it into your form. Let it sit couple of days and then release, add glue and put it back to your form. You can add glue right away after soaking, but if your not in hurry give it a time, as if your form is odd shape or with hard turns, putting your pre formed plywood into with glue makes it so much easier and helps to prevent layer delamination mistakes. To be noted i'm not certain or seen any signs of this, but technically wood should be all dry before adding glue as wood will suck the moisture and glue into material, where wet wood would be already wet, so material could be lacking those sucking properties and make weaker bond. Then again water in the wood technically could thin out the glue and mix it inside the wood, giving strong bond.. I'm not sure witch is the case, but both techniques seemed to work just fine, thought first one prevents those mistakes. After your done, you need to let the wood dry up to 3 days, before coating it to get most of the moisture out, but then again this method gives wood way less surface tress, locking layers in place, with out wood trying to spring outwards much as the dry wood would.

Nice work, here's some advise: Three layers would have been enough and still pretty stiff. 16mm is really thick. Also, you shouldnt put all layers in one direction to prevent torsion. Good thing you used plywood. I'm looking forward to the motorized version 😃

Alright, I'm following your video here religiously. So I aim to do the exact same as you: an electric longboard. I used regular ply and learnt the hard way. I'm currently making mine at school since it's the only place where I have the tools needed for making it, and I wanted to know where I can buy the material. I know in your video you showed that you got it from eBay, but I have a problem where I can't take it too or from school, and they don't accept deliveries. So are there any shops that sell the right stuff? Like travis Perkins? Also, I'm gonna be making mine a meter long. Will the birch be able to hold my weight, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm a heavy guy.

i didn't quite understand why you decided to cut all the plywood in the same direction. i thought alternate grain direction makes the board stronger?
@MakoTheFrog7 жыл бұрын
Is it possible to add layers of fiberglass cloth inbetween each layer of wood before gluing to give it extra strength? and how would one go about doing that ?
@vincentdierckx60817 жыл бұрын
Nope, not possible and even worse I guess... Because the wood glue won't impregnate the glass fibres (you would need a special resin for that to happen, but i think this resin won't stick to wood). This means that if there occurs a crack, this crack will just grow in the glue resulting in a intermembrane crack, because the interface between the glue and the fibre is very weak, and this would even make the whole deck more sensitive to failure.
@guns21111boatbuilding7 жыл бұрын
pathetic yes, if you sand the wood with 80 grit sandpaper before and then use polyester resin it should work well, and be a lot stronger

Be careful when cutting unsupported on the table saw( no fence or mitre sled etc). Very easy for it to go wrong. I ended up in surgery and using the same saw as you funnily enough.
@PeterOConnl8 жыл бұрын
+Ariel Barton I was cutting like he was with hands both side of the blade, no fence or anything. The wood caught, pulled my hand onto the blade and ended up with the end of my pinky getting stitched back on, my ring finger fractured and disfigured. So now missing some bone and nerve damage in my ring finger and had to have surgery on it. The saw is cheap and not very accurate. The mitre guage is rubbish and just cheap amd flimsy, Id look at paying maybe £30 more and getting something a little better.
