hi,great job, i have made a few of these so maybe i could offer up a couple of good ideas? Instead of cutting-off the top + side flaps cover them in tin foil and you can angle them to send light into the box degree by degree until you are happy with result. in most cases you will not even need to use a flash. Also using different coloured tissue you will get different b/grounds, a different colour on each side can create a really professional look if you get it right. Sometimes the box can become a bit floppy, a strip of tape around the outside edges + corners of the panels before you cut them out will add some strength. (sorry to go on but i hope somebody likes the ideas)cheers,david

Good tutorial. I suggest aiming the two lights more toward the white background instead of straight in from the side, which will help the background appear more as true white. Then add a 3rd light as a main light from the front, to one side of the camera. This will yield a more well lit product photo.

I tried making my own before this and it didn't quite work well. Differences between my setup and this one is that I only had 2 sides cut out (not the top) and my light sources (flashlight and phone flashlight) were not as powerful. Guess it's time to cut another hole and pick up some white lights! Thanks for the video

You can use anything that will diffuse the light from the lamps. Tissue paper, white sheets, etc. Just remember that the thicker the material, the more dim the light will be on the inside of the box.

How big are the bulbs. 40, 60, etc.Where do you get the tissue paper?
@PlanetMezz
@PlanetMezz 8 жыл бұрын
Dollar Stores sell the paper. I'd use bright bulbs.. your camera can aways shorten the exposure if it's too bright - you don't want to use the camera flash which will bounce off your subject - causing reflections and that defeats the whole purpose of the diffused light via the tissue paper

me again, i forgot to mention,,if you super glue 3 pc`s of glass together (like a bench) when taking your pics objects appear to be in suspended animation and if the item is something like a coin + will not stand up a tiny peice of blu-tack at the back will be invisible,cheers,david
@jsiow4

gisaclu Hi gisaclu, I like your idea of creating a suspended animation effect'. So when you mentioned '3 pc of glass together like a bench, what type of glass are you referring to here? Could you enlighten me here and where can i purchase it ?
@gisaclu
@gisaclu 10 жыл бұрын
jsiow4 hi,take 2 bits of glass about 2 inches square as uprights and then choose the length off the top piece which will form a kind of bench-seat across them. A piece of emery cloth on a block will smooth the edges + corners so you do not cut yourself. another style is to form a triangle for the base (platform) and lay the top on (like a table. Superglue applied with a toothpick works well but does not last as well as glass-glue. I used picture-frame glass but you could use any weight of glass up to plate (shop window) and you can get that out of most skips. if you have not cut glass it is very simple,your d.i.y. shop will sell you a glass-cutter and show you how to use it. The main thing to remember when cutting glass is to dip the cutting-wheel in oil just before the cut which must be done in one pass. I hope this is not too long winded but i hope it is of some help , cheers
