this was great. just heard about magnetic covers recently and was thinking through how it must have to be assembled. it was nice seeing it in practice! especially like the solution to the thin cover, and just recessing the magnet deeper on the body. loved that you did a full walkthrough of everything involved, to show the process. i have some non-guitar related stuff i need to do this on as well.

Do all the fitting and fastening through the ebony before gluing on the top layer!

I tried this method and it worked for me: glue one end of the magnet in place, then take a strip of masking tape and cover up that magnet. Now use the other magnet and attach it to the first magnet, with the tape in between, then apply glue on that surface and glue it to the cover. It will be perfectly aligned.

You could do a route of the truss rod cover's silouette on the headstock of around 1mm.....that way it will not move, and the magnet will hold it so it doesnt fall

Yes. like on the back cover.....I do that also on the stratocaster jacks, because I preffer they are all flat with the guitar surface.

I like that a lot. I'm wondering if it might help to shape and fit the bottom layer of laminate before gluing together. That way you could safely drill all your pins and magnet holes without fear of drilling through the top layer. Thanks for sharing

That's not a bad idea but then an extra problem presents itself... proper alignment. If I ever do it again, I may consider a recessed truss rod cover...

I’d have probably cut a small piece of the dark wood to the same shape as the truss rod cavity, glued it to the back of the cover so when it snaps in with the magnet, it “locks in” to the truss rod cavity hole.
