its still opening and immediately closing :( Im not really sure what to do. The EULA agreement thing hasnt shown up. all that i have in the folder is minecraft_server.1.20.4.jar startup.bat (the '.bat' and '.jar' are the extended ones you told us to check for. i deleted the first '.jar' as instructed. I've looked in hidden items just in case that did something and nothing changed. I'm really confused pls help 🙏

If you're hosting locally then it could be that you need to set up port forwarding - it's a bit complicated to explain here to would recommend looking it up or getting in touch with your ISP to help with that one

Hi, I've just followed the same steps again with the latest update and it seems to work fine for me - the only difference that I can see is that server name in the batch file no longer has the version number in it, but it's the same process of either copying the server file name into the batch file, or the batch file server name out to be the server file name. Hopefully that makes sense, but let me know if there is another issue you are seeing

Hi there, That text actually means that the server is online and working. If you were to then join the server through Minecraft you'd see the text in the console update showing that your profile has joined the game, and will show any other changes that happen to the server.

Not an issue i've seen before, the only thing I could suggest is removing that eula file and making your own: Filename: eula.txt Inside, paste: eula=true Once that's in place you then try and run the batch file again, if that doesn't work you might want to start the process again from scratch

Usually this is due to an issue with the configuration file. If you haven't installed mods (the other usual culprit) then check your server properties file to make sure that there are no errors there, and try downloading a default copy and inserting that if needed. If that doesn't work then you may need to check your error logs against what you can find online for further help.

Just to check, is a UELA file appearing in your server directory? If not then try and run the the server file (.jar) directly and see if that file appears. If not then this could be an issue with outdated java, so make sure to check that.

You may need to look at removing any old versions of Java you have installed - beyond that however this might be an issue that you have to look into yourself as it's hard to say what is causing that

Try running the server file (the one ending .jar) directly by double clicking it. If that doesn't work then it may be that Java was not installed correctly, so you may need to fix that.

@Freshly-picked-Memes Hi, the batch file is how you change the amount of RAM allocated. You may want to check if you are running a 32 bit or 64 bit OS - if you are running a 32 bit OS then the maximum amount of RAM you can allocate is 1GB, which would also explain why the batch file isn't working. If this is the case then I'm afraid there isn't a way around this asides from using a device with a 64bit OS, or running the server remotely.

If you've set this up on your home PC, you can find your IP by simply typing "what is my IP" into google, and this will show your public IP that your friends can use to connect to your server online. If you've got a remote server, the IP address should be shown on your control panel - if you're struggling to find that your server provider should be able to help! As for the name, having a named server (where you connect with a name rather than an IP address) is a bit more complicated and requires you to set up a domain name - that's out of scope of this tutorial unfortunately but there are plenty of guides online that should be able to help!

The most common cause for this issue is the wrong version of Java being installed, so make sure to check that first. If that is definitely up to date, try running the server file (.jar) directly rather than through the batch file. If you still don't have the eula file after that then you could always make your own instead - simply create a .txt file in your server directory called "eula.txt", and paste in the below: eula=true

If you have no eula file that could be a symptom of another issue, but one way around this is just to make your own eula file: Filename: eula.txt Inside, paste: eula=true Once that's in place then you run the batch file again. If that still doesn't work, you might be on a 32 bit system at which point you can only run minecraft at the base specifications and so the batch file given won't work.

Hi there, The basic level that this tutorial would leave you at would let you update your server and also install mods, but it's worth keeping in mind that when you start to add mods into the mix the update process will become much more complex and will likely mean you'll need to stick to older versions etc.

If you are getting actual Minecraft opening up then something isn't right somewhere, this server file is a completely different program. Someone else in the comments mentioned no EULA showing up and it was due to Java not being installed properly, so it might be worth double checking that!

I doubt anyone will see this, but I need help. 1. The batch file doesn't work, I accepted the EULA and have the latest version of Java and I downloaded the other one he said to download in the video, does not work. When I click on the Java file itself, it does start working, but I don't know if that is the same thing. 2. I portforwarded, and I set up the firewall rule to no issues. However, when I try to connect to my server using my IP and the port 25565, it does not work. It just says "Connection Timed Out, no further information." I am running the server with 2gbs of ram, and I am on a 64 bit operating system. I have no clue why its not working since I seemed to have done everything correctly. I am trying to run a 1.19.2 server, and yes I made sure to download that file and not the newest one. Does anyone have any clue why it isn't working?

Hi there, 1) can you post the text of the batch file you have as a comment? I can have a quick look and see if I can see any issues 2) Have you tried using an online port scanner to see if your 25565 port is open? There might be other factors like a third party firewall causing you issues, so doing a scan will at least let you see if 25565 is actually showing as open online - if it isn't open then that's your issue, but if it is then you might have some further digging to do

Hi, if your server host gives you access to the server files (either by file manager or FTP) then you'll be able to download the world files and then import them to whatever server you plan to host on next - best bet is to ask your current host how to download your world from their servers

Changing the IP address is a bit of a complicated topic and not something I could easily advise on here. If you are running this on your own home PC then that's down to your Internet Service Provider and not really something I could help with. If this is on a remote server, the default IP is assigned when you first provision that server. You could add a new IP to that device and then assign the new IP within the server properties file, but this is all a bit out of scope for this guide. I'd advise looking up a separate guide on how to do this to make sure you don't run into any issues trying to do this!

If you are using the remote way (ie hosting your minecraft server on a remote server you are renting somewhere else) then the IP address should either be available in whatever interface the provider gives you, or you can use ipconfig in the command prompt to check this - if you are struggling with any of this, then you could instead simply reach out to your server provider and they'll be able to confirm the server IP for you

If they can't then you'll need to see what error message they are getting and look that up online to see why they can't join.
