That's pretty good. You could use the same technique for polishing a turd. I would recommend running the drill a bit slower. After some sanding, a brush would get quite a nice shine.

Has seen the idea many years ago but had forgotten it. Friend was making parts for his model train set and he used the same trick to turn a metal rod down to size. Thanks for posting this and reminding me of it.

FYI, sandpaper is not rated "big one / little one" nor is it rated "thick one / thin one", it's rated as "grit" such as "1200, 500, 220 , 120, 60, etc... grit", this is something you already know since you have apparently purchased your sandpaper for at least this video....the lower the grit, the more course it is, the higher the grit, the more finer it is....low grit is great for removing mass volume while higher grit is great for smoothing and polishing.

I think the sandpaper is rated "course" (40 grit)/"medium" (80 grit) and "fine" (~120 grit?) in the craft section at "Dollars and cents". It's near where they keep the foam for the carrots.

I'm sure there has to be some sort of value to this but a hundred dollar average investment plus labor and material to make a one dollar float? Not being mr. negative, just trying to think what else could be done and not trolling here. I was hoping to see a mini-metal lathe but doubt it. Wood? Maybe?
@Bouzsi
@Bouzsi 3 жыл бұрын
You probably wouldn’t want to make a metal turning lathe using a drill for the motor, would you? I’m not being sarcastic- I’m VERY new to using hand tools and to doing any kinds of crafting/machining type of stuff. My thinking is that you’d be putting a lot of repetitive load on the drill’s motor, and end up burning it up pretty quickly. At some point, long about the second or third replacement drill, you’ve spent more money than an actually _decent_ lathe, even one bigger than just a mini one, would cost, wouldn’t you? Again- not trolling. I’m asking because I’m genuinely curious and thinking about putting a lathe together using a drill I don’t use anymore. I was more interested in wood turning, but I think turning metal would be cool, too. I recently saw a video about a miniature chess set and thought it would be awesome to make chess sets (somewhere between full-size and miniature… maybe something like a slightly larger-than-travel-sized set) out of multiple types of wood, or to make the boards out of wood but use metal for the pieces. Anyway, sorry for blathering on, I just wanted to make sure you have some context in order to know I’m not just stupid, or just being a dick, but that I’m simply ignorant to much of how things like this work since I didn’t have anyone around that taught me how to use tools and whatnot after my dad passed away when I was younger (and therefore mom was working a LOT to take care of us, but also she didn’t know too much about tools either 😕 Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond, if you can/do!
