Very Awesome. Before you sanded the foam down it gave me an idea. if you made one using square not round toothpicks and didn't sand the angles off you could make some sort of like crystal spider if painted to look like one
@MiniTerrainDomain

The first prototype I made used square toothpicks. I never thought of a crystal spider though; that's a great idea.

Excellent job on crafting the spiders. I like how they are all unique and creepy. I always like to keep small bits of foam leftover from cutting pieces and save them for unknown future projects.

Timeless is right. This is perfect for an army idea I've had for an Age of Sigmar Nurgle deamons army. I bought a bunch of seashells from the Dollar Store decor area, and I want to make them look like diseased hermit crabs. Actually, this would be awesome for making giant hermit crabs for just about any game. Thanks for the video!

Cool looking spiders. I need to try this. Ten years ago, I made a scrawny hand using the cracked toothpick method. Three-D fabric paint is good for accents before the black base coat. Knuckles, veins, tendons, etc.

i'm definitly trying these :-). Maybe coat the body with watered down pva, then spray paint, wont melt the foam that way ;-). Awsome vid!

Awesome crafting there, really like the end result! I came here from DMScotty's channel (great crafter as well) and after watching the video I subscribed and am looking forward to watching more. As a quick tip, if you want to save time and be able to use rattle can (spray) paint and/or primer with the pink foam, you can coat it with some white glue like Elmer's. Make sure to give it a good coat; some people prefer to water theirs down, I use it straight from the bottle. The entire surface of the foam has to be coated, so if you're unsure give it a second coat once the first is dry. The white glue seals the surface of the foam, preventing the chemicals in spray paint from melting it. You also use this if you wanted to use super glue on foam, though its more likely that if you're going to break out the white glue anyways, you might as well just use that to stick the foam together and simply wait for a short while while it cures.

Thank you for the compliments and for the sub. Stay tuned for more content. On a side note, my personal approach to the technique of coating foam in glue to prime it for spray paint is this: if I'm going to have to paint the foam with 1 or 2 coats of glue, I might just as well paint on the black base coat.

That's what makes for an interesting game: if you, as a player, fear something, you can either overcome it via your character, or channel that fear into your character. It makes the game visceral.

If you coat the spiders in elmers glue, then you can spray paint them. The glue is a barrier, so paint it ALL in glue, just in case.

I liked this, i would put baking soda on the superglue when you're reinforcing rhe joints so they would be bigger and a little knobbly.

I've heard of using baking soda with glue, I think I'll give that a shot for my Kruithik models.
@circuit19
@circuit19 5 жыл бұрын
@@gnarlestongnu637 be warned it's highly addicting. The other thing you can do is dissolve the baking soda in water as much baking soda as you can dissolve in a thing of water. put that into a spray bottle and when you spray that water on the super glue it will harden instantly.

I really like this! I can't wait to see more vids! As a new DM, I am having trouble getting miniatures for encounters, and this would make things way cheaper. What is your thoughts on the viability of modeling clay?
@MiniTerrainDomain
@MiniTerrainDomain 9 жыл бұрын
Depending on your sculpting ability, modeling clay could be a viable option for you. I made a version of these spiders out of homemade air dry clay, but the stuff was too soft. I have an idea how it could be done, just on a longer timeline. Anything is possible:) I started building miniature terrain because I started DMing and wanted to enhance my game table, but couldn't afford the higher end options out there. Stay tuned for LOTS more vids coming regularly.

air dry clay can get you pretty far but don't limit yourself to just 1 medium. Like tin foil, modeling paste, epoxy putty etc..

Not bad at all, speaking as a former full arachnophobic and now only a minor one (I can deal with them and not run screaming like I used too...unless it's a damn big spider but I don't know many who aren't scared of that) I can safely say the one thing I hate above all things in RPGs whether tabletop or video game...I HATE the giant spiders, they creep me right the hell out. The scuttling sound they make and the clicking noise the fangs make in game along with the screeches makes them one of the things that creeps me out the most. The bigger the spider the worse it is. On a side note I saw the flat black and thought that if you left it like that and just added some dull red eyes you could have a spider that is summoned from shadows and has a few buffs from staying in the shadows but get easier to beat with light around. I don't know if it's been done, totally new to tabletop RPGs but just something that popped into my head.
@MiniTerrainDomain
@MiniTerrainDomain 9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I really like the idea of the shadow spider. That could be really creepy in game to have spiders form out of shadow and scurry from one dark area to another. You could probably just mod the stats for a phase spider.
@ShinKyuubi
@ShinKyuubi 9 жыл бұрын
Mini Terrain Domain Glad you like my idea, it was just something I cooked up from seeing the spider unpainted and just base coated. I have a vivid imagination so sometimes I see things and go "Well..this could be this or that in such and such" I read alot and play alot of video games so my ideas usually fall on those lines..turns out quite a few can fit table top RPGs too I guess.
