How to make a Mushroom Terrarium[Real Mushrooms]

"The Kinocorium” (mushroom terrarium) is a terrarium in which mushrooms are grown in a glass container and it is an art work at the same time.
I consider mushrooms to be the layout material, and I make my works with the concept of reproducing nature in small glass containers.
The period during which mushrooms grow is very short and lasts about 1 to 2 weeks.
The finished scene is very short-lived, but the shapes created by mushrooms are very beautiful, mysterious and they are the things that attract people.
The mushroom part is called the fruiting body and is similar to flowers when speaking about plants.
Even if the fruiting body dies, the mycelium of the mushroom does not.
As long as the mycelium is alive, mushrooms will keep growing more than once.
My works actually produce mushrooms 2-3 times a year.
Mushrooms and moss are grown, the scenery design is made, and it is especially impressive when a landscape, which is like a part of nature cut out and placed in a small glass container, is completed.
Every day I work hard on producing my works while enjoying both the fun of growing and the fun of creating.

Out of curiosity, why do you put the foil around the mushroom seed plug?

There's no particular reason why it has to be aluminum foil, but I often use it because it doesn't rot and can be molded freely.

The fruiting body of the mushroom can last for a very small amount of time but some species of mushroom last like alot like 14 days

Beautiful terrarium ! People don’t know how easy is to grow your own edible mushrooms and have them for life! There are delicious varieties that you can grow organic. Edible mushrooms are full in protein and more nutrients. I uploaded some videos here in my channel in case you wants to try it 😊

That’s really amazing, I’m surprised it isn’t viral. One question tho, do yk if after those mushrooms die, they’ll grow back again and again and again? Like, is it renewable? Because there is only so much substrate for that mushroom cluster in its mushroom bed wrapped in foil, will that specific species (or if you have any recommendations) propagate into the soil around it?

A little late for a response, but bioluminescent organisms do not need a blacklight to glow. They produce their own light in dark environments :) i would love to make my own terrarium with them, super cool

When the mushroom withers the organizam is not dead it's just waiting to find food so it can make more fruiting bodies( the mushroom) so alot of mushrooms grow from decomposing weed but you can try giving them used coffee grounds

I would like to know if they ever fruited like that after this video. Putting a ripe piece of mycelial cake in the middle of a terrarium is one thing, it is sure to sprout impressively like you’ve shown. I wonder if that container has the space and nutrients to allow the mycelia to continue to grow and survive. Without springtails the fungus will be outcompeted and eventually eaten alive by mold unless it can keep growing and get enough water and nutrients to defend itself. Springtails, when added, may eat the mycelia and kill the fungus anyway. Unless you had a much larger container to dump this terrarium into after a couple of flushes that would allow the fungus to keep growing and living, unfortunately I think this project was more for a good looking thumbnail and the life of the fungus was disregarded.😢

I wasn’t sure that mushroom terrariums existed. When I searched I thought I might just get plant habitats in mushroom-shaped bottles. Now that I see how this artist/scientists makes his mushroom homes, I wonder why it works do well when, in reading about cultivating mushrooms as food, sterility is of the utmost importance at every step, starting with sterilizing containers in a pressure-cooker and covering them with foil, through which a hypodermic needle must be used to inject spores as any breach larger than needle’-width will admit dreaded invaders and ruin the crop. Maybe this kind of mushroom-growing is like raising children on farms, where you allow them to develop immunity to serious infections by vaccine-like exposures to various germs, compared with raising them plastic bubbles so that they never once see a pathogen. Which works best for health and longevity? Which is sane (thought not sanitary) and which is insane? Where would I like to grow up? Where would I like to grow up if Nintendo were in the mix? [Don’t offer that as a choice. I’m afraid it’s what has happened to us.]
