I completely forgot to talk about why I chose to work with the calendula. I like the Calendula flower because it has so many good properties. You can eat the flower as it is and inside the body it works a bit anti inflammatory and for some pain relief. On the outside it helps your skin to keep its moisture, it helps to heal wounds and skin cracks and can help with eczema or problems with psoriasis. Read more about the calendula and decide for yourself if this is a herb for you. I love it! /Tova Link to my blogpost about the salve with the recipe: www.talasbuan.com/english-blog/2021/5/25/lanolin-and-beeswax-salve

Thank you Tova for sharing the benefits of the Calendula flower. On the previous video when you referred to the wool short pants that you put on Ivar to hold the nappies, you mentioned lanolized, or something that sounded similar to that. Is this save something use apply to the wool short pants to waterproof the nappie cover pants?

@Mono Vision - I know this is ‘yet another’ ingredient and you have to decide for yourself if you are happy with where you source it from, (but for me it is worth it because it doubles the time before it goes rancid). I add vitamin E capsules to my salve, I pierce the gelatin capsule and squirt it in (and stir) just before I pour it into the jars. (For the size of jars Tuva has I would use one capsule per jar). It helps to always keep your jars tightly sealed and in a cool dark place too. I hope this helps.

On eczema, it is better to try a new ingredient at a time. If the first helps and don't react, you can try another one, after a fey days or 1 or 2 weeks. Here, for example, begin with oil + calendula only. And to moisture your skin, you could try à good organic aloe vera gel too, over the calendula oil (without alcool and perfume and others... the less ingredients, the best!)

Hello Tova! As a trainer in natural cosmetics I say: Well done! Clear and complete explanations, bravo! And as I know "a little" about the subject, here is some additional information: - First, and importantly, some people are allergic to lanolin - although some studies suspect additives or the fact that sheep are not "organic" rather than lanolin itself, I think it's good to point this out. - Secondly, for those who don't want to use animal products (or who find it difficult to find quality ones) some vegetable butters can replace animal wax and fat, such as shea or coconut butter. - Finally, to get a softer balm texture, you can make a chantilly! Just whip the liquid while it cools, and then put it in jars :) You can speed up the cooling process by putting the pan in cold water (or snow ;) ) And you can also add a little bit of cornstarch - organic of course - for a less greasy feel. Here you go, I hope it will be useful :)

Thank you for your video - I make my own salve also using various ingredients but the bases are always organic olive oil - shea butter - beeswax and sunflower oil. My infusions vary with season- this year I am making dandelion infused olive oil and calendula infused olive oil and I really like my spruce tip salve made by soaking young spruce tips in olive oil and then using the same method you use making a salve - this one is great for skin and very healing. It is very empowering to be able to make your own skin care products and they are much healthier and much more economical. I have rendered beef tallow for soap making and it is a lot of work but I have to say it makes the best transparent bar of soap.I have not considered using beef tallow in salve but can certainly see the value. I just love this video. Mostly because I am a medicinal herbalist and I make all my own herbal medications as well as a salve that treats most skin issues from eczema to nappy rash. The last batch I made I did not measure the lavender EO..accidentally slopped about a tablespoon full of it in!!!!!and also used too much bees wax. My batch was large..about 40oz about 1200ml I'm old.. 61 and I take to heart your very good advice to write down every step to know what needs to be adjusted , next time. I did not write it down and my batch will last a couple of years so.. I will NOT remember what I did or did not do.

I agree with you regarding the meticulous measures for heat on the ingredients to preserve their nutrient value .. was a real treat to watch your method for making your salve .. much love to your beautiful family from Canada xo ..

I'm definitely going to make this lanolin salve. I have a jar of organic coconut oil on my desk next to the computer that I use in my herbal tea and also to moisturize my hands. But lanolin is probably better for colder and more dry weather. It is so true what you say, that if you can't eat it, you shouldn't wear it on your skin either.

@@WarpFactor999 correct, however just honey not mixed with oils. And it had probably dried out and crystallized over all those years! Now if you powder that crystallized honey you can add it to balms and salves.

Thank you, it seems very worthwhile to gather these ingredients and try it out! I had no idea about making calendula oil, and my skin loves calendula-anything so I will try it!!! Last video you mentioned that cold in winter is about how you dress. Could you please make a video about how to dress for the cold, about wool and about how to take care of it? I'm from Spain, from the south, and now live in the north. We don't have any "winter culture" because snow is seldom, but most of the houses do not have insulation, so it's actually very cold. I am now learning about natural fabrics and was thinking about silk, linen or merino and then thicker wool, and then another light layer that would protect the wool (for interiors). I love your channel, saludos a todos! 🌞🌞🌞

Sorry, I forgot to mention: if you could give us some advice from a minimalistic approach, and also to know about pijamas. I have always used synthetic fluffy pj's but now I've learned that they loose some fibers and contaminate the waters... Wool seems complicated to me for washing and drying (no dryer), but again my experience is close to zero 😅 Thanks and cheers! 🌌

@@collagemettled8217 I have wool socks, wool sweaters, and hats gloves and scarves. I hand wash everything and lay flat on a towel to dry. Some wool items will shrink in a dryer. At least natural wool can. That's the only wool I have experience with. Machine washing with detergents will degrade the yarn. Hope this is helpful.

@@peacefulwife5199 thank you 🙂! That seems like the right way to go with clothes, and I forgot about feet, neck and head, I will check out what options I can find. About washing, I had a wool sweater once, machine-washed it every week, and it became super itchi and rough. I guess starting with 2 or 3 pieces to be able to air them out, and hand washing as you say, would be better. 💮🌸💮

@@ZeybekAjda omg I love your hack about sizing up with wool planning for it to shrink 1 time 👏👏👏 and then machine washing!!! I did not know about not sundrying silk thank you 🌞 I have a few second hand silk tops and it's incredible how they feel against the skin, I love them so much that I was planning on sewing some. I'm not an expert but there are some very simple top patterns and with a French seam it can be very simple. I will also take a look at the brand that you mention. A bonus of having a minimal longlasting wardrobe is that you can invest a bit more in each piece and still be on a budget 😉 Oh, I love linen because it's super resistant and somehow I feel that it's more breathable than cotton, prefer it instead of t-shirts. Happy Sunday to all!

Calendula is amazing! Yes, I guess we can talk more about the clothing, but I can tell you a bit now also :) First layer is a thinner pant made of wool, and I also have a top that is silk/wool blend. Next layer, if its really cold, a thicker wool pant and a thinner sweater in wool, and the outer Layer a shell pant and a knitted sweater. So wool and silk is a really good combination. Woollen socks is really nice, and then knitted woollen socks on top. I sleep in a wool nightgown :) As for washing, you don't need to wash your woollen clothes, like almost never. Use them until you think they are a bit unfresh or how to put it and then hang them on a hanger outside over night or for a couple of days, it will be as new. Wool "washes" itself. If you feel you need to wash it, use a wool detergent and wash by hand or in machine at a wool program, use a towel to press the worst of the water out and then hang on a hanger to dry. Hope this helps a bit! :) /Tova

Thank you for this video. I think the ratio of the ingredients depends as well on the climate one lives in. I make my own deodorant (starch, coconut oil and bicarbonate) and in the hot summer it melts back to oil consistency so I need to keep it in the fridge.
