In this video, I show you how I create a pattern for a particular knife. This style of knife sheath is called a pancake knife sheath.
We do have a video showing how we make a completed sheath using patterns we have created. You can watch that video here:

Thanks, I made one of these a couple of months back and lost my pattern. Thanks to you it jogged my memory and I'll be able to make more of these. I like the basket weave with the barbed wire border.

I used your video to make a pancake knife sheath for my small edc fixed blade. Turned out great! Best one I’ve made to date thanks to your awesome videos. Did the basket weave stamp with the olive oil finish and sealed with Tan Kote. Thanks for teaching us all your tips and tricks.

Great video. Wish you'd done it a month ago, when I had a customer want a sheath for a short, fat pocket flashlight. I probably lost (more) hair, figuring that thing out!

Thank you for a great video Don. Is there an ideal ratio for the knife stitch line to the thickness of the knife? I’m trying to determine when the 3/8” might need to be greater or less.

I'm working on making a pancake sheath for my leatherman wave. Where the 3/8" stitch line works for the smaller knives should I up it to 1/4 or 5/8 for the style of knife I'm working on?

3/8ths even for something thicker like a Leatherman? Awesome video!
@powellcustomleathersaddlery

Not to say this is how Don would do it, but when I make cases for Leathermans I measure the thickness let’s just say it’s an inch thick I would divide that in half so your stitch lines would be 1/2 away on both sides. I normally give myself some extra room on the first one and adjust from there.

To be fair a leatherman isnt a "normal" sized knife.. its usually a multi tool, so Dons ⅜" rule may not apply towards that lol with normal flip knives id say the rule is applicable.
@johntuck8927

Exactly what Powell said. Measure the thickness & take 1/2 that. That is how far out from the outline to make your stitch line. I've done that for multi-tools & same way I lay out the lines for a gun holster.

I think in a previous video he said it was a cs Osborne which you can buy from there website which they are 4 weeks behind right now and weaver also sells them which they are on backorder

@johntuck8927 2 жыл бұрын
I was able to order a CS Osborne 2" on Amazon last week, approximately 5 days from order to received. I've used a 1 3/4" prior to that, but it can be a little tight on a 1 1/2" belt if it's a good weight like he makes & sells the material packs for.
