Love this ❤️ Couldn’t be more perfect timing too. My dad passed away last month and I thought it would be nice to make a sweater pillow out of his favourite sweater for my mom for Christmas. Thanks so much for the instructions! I’m also very interested in the ornaments as I could make some out of the rest of the sweater for family members as a keepsake. ❤️

So glad you posted this! I am about to make a pillow from an old sweater my dad had from the 80s (a white and berry red Fair Isle type print) and hadn't thought about adding piping around the edges.

I was thinking of using a fairisle sweater too! Mine is also red and white, and really pretty but just doesn't fit very nicely. Good luck on yours and hope it turns out to your liking! I really think the piping will add a touch of extra elegance and class. ❤️🌿

Beautiful talent! I’m a beginner with my sewing machine. A lady from church is teaching me a few tricks here and there. I still get my seams all over the place and forget what is suppose to be facing out (thankful for seam rippers). Anyway, thanks for the tip of cutting the edges for a easier fold. Corners are tricky for me and it bums me out when they are all wonky.

While I enjoy watching various D.I.Y. projects, I seldom really care to try them myself. But, this sweater pillow is lovely, and I would like to make one. What was the reason you sewed from the "back" side when doing final seams since you could not see where to sew? Thanks for an excellent tutorial :)

It turned out beautiful. I can’t keep anything white in my house with 5 kids. I don’t see how you keep your stuff white. It just doesn’t stay white here on our homestead, but white is very beautiful.
@emilys36385 жыл бұрын
The secret to white is that, unlike other colors, it can be bleached! In the case of this pillowcase, probably not, since there are other colors involved. But I've had good success with using Oxy-Clean and hot water to get colored things clean again. There is a mild fade that can occasionally happen, but to me it's worth it to get it clean and nice again. Hope this helps you! White really is lovely. I know that Lisa does bleach the white slipcovers of her wingback chairs when they get stained. 😊❤️

Thanks for this. I’ve been saving old sweaters to do this with but wasn’t sure how to go about it. The flannel piping really pulls it all together. One question, how do you keep the sweater piece from unraveling?
@leaht45055 жыл бұрын
Velvet & Toads she sewed it right after she cut it so it didn’t unravel. If your sweater starts to unravel you can use Fray Check on the edges (in sewing notions section) or she says to serge the edge or use zig zag stitch too.

When you trim the seam allowance, you can stagger the layers, i.e. one layer is trimmed to 1/8", the next one to 1/4", then 3/8" etc. Prevents a big bump caused by thick fabrics. More important in dress making than in soft pillows. This is best done where the seam will be enclosed as the fabric can ravel. DON'T try serging over this! ;)
