@MayliSong3 ай бұрын
Wouldn’t it be easier to texture the pieces before assembling the hat? Or does doing it once assembled have a purpose, like helping direct the look or preventing damage when assembling?
@SKSProps3 ай бұрын
If you add texture with heat you can’t heat it again or the texture will disappear. So if you have to heat form the pieces for the top of the hat or brim you can’t. That’s why texture is added after its fabricated
@MayliSong3 ай бұрын
@@SKSProps Ah, that makes a ton of sense, thanks for the speedy response! You’d be able to reheat and retexture it if the texture did come out when assembling? Obviously not after paint, I’d imagine the paint probably wouldn’t react well to the heat, and the texture probably wouldn’t take through it anyway.

Why do you use cement sometimes but super glue others?
@SKSProps Жыл бұрын
Most of the time I prefer superglue because it dries faster and adding additional heat won’t weaken the bond. I use contact cement if it is a large or very heavy wear area
@presterjohn16972 жыл бұрын
that was dope
@SKSProps2 жыл бұрын
Thanks!
@EmilyJenson-x3i Жыл бұрын
Can you tell us a little more about glue? For the glue can other glues be used rather than rubber cement? Why rubber cement for the top of the hat and super glue for the brim? Just trying to understand when to use which glue or if other glues can be substituted.
@SKSProps Жыл бұрын
Contact cement not rubber cement. Contact cement is better for heavy wear, or pieces that are under stress like curving a dome. Super glue is fine for everything else and will usually keep the build cleaner. Since contact cement has to have the adhesive in the exact spot on both pieces

Does it affect the final product much if you don't use a heat gun?
@SKSProps2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the foam my foam can be manipulated by hand without a heat gun it just helps. Most other brands of foam are as high density so you have to use a heat gun to get it to form properly.
@dulceghost95262 жыл бұрын
@@SKSProps ah okay, so if the foam was thicker the heat gun would make it easier to manipulate into the shapes wanted?
@SKSProps2 жыл бұрын
@@dulceghost9526 Yes, but also the quality of the foam makes a difference, Take for instance the 6mm foam at Hobby Lobby and my 6mm theirs is a lower density and a higher shore hardness. Even though both are 6mm you'd have to use a heat gun on their foam just because the quality of the foam is worse

@SKSProps2 жыл бұрын
contact cement is good for large and heavy wear areas. Super glue is good for details and keeps the overall build cleaner. Both work great on their own and I actually use them together as a double adhesive method in multiple builds
