I made 48 pom poms for my JV cheerleading squad back in 1975 and you would think I’d remember the technique forever lol! When a project called for pom poms, I searched YT and found a bunch of methods, but none come close to doing as good a job as this oldie but goody! Thanks for sharing and the trip down memory lane!

Just have to update this: So after watching this refresher video, I spent hours wrapping yarn around a giant 7” doughnut template for an enormous pom pom and manicuring it into a perfect sphere. I attached it to the hat I’d just completed and set it on the bathroom counter to brush out my hair. When I turned around, my new hat was on the floor between the enormous paws of my 150# Presa Canario (a type of Mastiff) and my pom pom was GONE! But not the thousands of tiny strands of yarn that it was made of! It was literally a yarn avalanche! Apparently dogs really really enjoy pom poms a lot too!

Thank you for teaching us how to make it, instead of just showing us! 🙌🏽 Ps- If you place a string in between the two layers of cardboard before you start wrapping, you eliminate the fiddling at the end to tie it all up. Enjoy!

I had no idea what a pompom was until watching this video. This is so cute. I might just try this one with the yarn we've had for decades. I've been watching your videos ever since I got myself a sewing kit for my cloths a couple days ago. I saved your "Craft Basics" playlist. You have a very calming voice and pleasant style of teaching. I just wanted you to know that. Cheers!

I'm sorry to comment here but I had to thank you. I've been trying for years to find marzipan pigs for new years and just couldn't. I figured I could make them, maybe, and stumbled across your video. You definitely make it seem doable, but I'm also disabled and have chronic pain so I was really afraid to try. My son and I whipped out 4 respectably cute piggies just in time for the New Year. So thank you! I posted them on Facebook and I've been getting friends and family commenting all day about how cute they are! Posting the link in case any of them want to try. They are so fun and so cute. And even my angry old body did it. Yay!

Just one tip: before you begin to cut it, turn the circles against each other to close the gap and nothing will fall apart. You can also close the gap and wrap this little part up before you cut it. It's the only technique I knew, we made lots and lots of it in kindergarten an school. A few days ago I stumbled across some videos showing other techniques but it seems as if they need all manual trimming or are very hard to do and the PomPoms can fall into pieces. I didn't even thought about that such problems could occur, because I never experienced anything like this. Since then I'm watching videos about PomPoms, didn't made one in the last 25(?) years and don't want to, but I'm curious about the different ways to make them. I still prefer this method, just for very, very tiny maybe not. Great that you show this way of doing it, I can say that even a 3yr old will get a very pretty and lasting PomPom!
