Wood ash is eco friendly. It recycles in a garden, lawn or compost heap just fine.

What is cornish stone and quartz? are these just natural minerals? Also Curious about the temperature required for this glaze to work... Thank you

Quartz is a rock that is crushed into a powder for glaze making, Cornish Stone is a type of artificially degraded quartz. They are used at stoneware (high fire) temperatures which is around 1260oc

@@oxfordclay3810 Quartz is crystalline Silica (SiO2) mineral. It differs from other types of silica that are microcrystalline (chalcedony) or amorphous (obsidian). The type of silica used can influence the melting temperature and the final appearance of the glaze. Cornish Stone is most likely a type of feldspar (aluminum silicate) that lowers the melting temperature of the quartz. The only "ecological" thing about your vague glaze recipe is that it can be made from local products IF YOU LIVE in the area.

"Make glaze from wood ash with 3 simple ingredients" Right, anyone can get their hands on wood ash, cool. "Oh, oh, and Cornish stone / quartz" That would be one of the "simple" ingredients, I assume?

@@TheUplate coffee grinder is ok, i dont think hitting an exact mesh really matters that much- but you might wanna use some phosphoric acid to rinse it with to remove iron oxide contamination - its in many limescale products and even coca cola

@@WeebRemover4500 woah, you were being serious!?! Awesome, I was looking for info on this. So just crush and thresh then acid scour? I want to try it this spring

@@TheUplate well quartz is a different form of glass, but it is essentially glass yes- which, sand is. quartz can take a bit more heat and is used in high-end industrial/lab applications phosphoric acid takes a while to eat the iron oxide away, but i have successfully smeared it on 5 year old rust running down white paint on a wall and next day the rust was completely gone where i rubbed it on- avoid using heat with phosphoric acid as it can etch glass and probably anything else you can think of using as container i have managed to make very fine particles seperate out from metal dust using a piece of cloth inside a plastic jar where the lid clamps the cloth, you just shake it- you can also try making a device with a hand-sander machine and then attach this to a pipe or similar construction where you have a stainless steel mesh filter in the middle, you then pour the stuff you want to filter into the top and the finer particles collect at the bottom

This channel is just and advertisement machine for a supposedly "ecofriendly" "vegan" clay supplies business. To avoid being exposed to more advertisements look for a video of them in the sidebar recommendations, click on the three dots, and then click on "don't recommend channel".
