Hi all, Due to some concerns from the subreddit, I've reached out to John Plant, owner of the Primitive Technology KZbin channel, for an update on his status during this pandemic, and because he hasn't released new videos for a few months now. I'm happy to be able to report that John is doing well and everything is fine. He thanks us for our concern and... has a nice surprise for us: He's unfortunately not allowed to reveal any details at this time, but John is currently taking a break from KZbin because he is working on a project for a cable network! Hope you all stay safe and healthy! was posted 13 days ago on reddit :)

It’s been over a year. KZbin is recommending to me plenty of other survival channels. This one is still the best; it explains what it’s doing, and considers tradeoffs between different designs and not just the looks for views.

Spent Christmas with family in Brisbane so missed the big storm that happened the other day here. Back home now, the current hut survived well with no leaks, all the un-fired bricks safe under the eves. All kilns and furnaces (out side the hut) sustained limited to no water damage after the 30 mm of rain we had while I was away. Thanks for your concern.

@@primarymeme9929 Interesting, i always thought California's fire problem came from planting too many eucalypti one to two centuries ago. But i guess that Smokey Bear Effect did its part too. Here in Europe we had 2018 one of the hottest summers in history. Also this year fires where a big problem in south europe. Our problem is indirectly caused by those extreme temperatures: Ours trees, especially spruce, timber number one in most parts of europe, is weakened by too long periods of heat, in return many of them die because of a normally non- fatal infestation of bark beetles. A normally green forest full of bone- dry and often dead trees is nothing to be ignored. The outcome: In 2018 germany (just as an example) had four times more forest fires than normal.
