how to make a raised dog bed with pvc and nylon webbing...

our 2 diy dog beds are semi-falling apart, so we purchased some new nylon webbing to fix them.
to build a pvc dog bed you'll need...

I made one out of 1 1/2" pvc and canvas like carhardt jackets and bibs are made out of. It regularly holds a 115 poumd black lab and an 85 pound silver lad at the same time. I paid 12 dollars for a yard of canvas and has not ripped in over a year. has stretched a little because they lay on it every day while we are at work. I accounted for it maybe stretching so it is a foot off the ground instead of the normal 4 or 6 inches most people make them. just got done ordering the material to make 3 more. one for my brothers new puppy and another for my bloodhound puppy (which is now 80 pounds). the key is to make sure it is stretched as tight as you can get it before installing the corner screws that lock the fittings together. I do this by drilling 2 holes and using 2 screwdrivers to twist the pipe to tighten one side at a time. works great.

nice! we origionally used canvas like fabric too, but it eventually ripped (prob after about 2.5 years or so). we didn't mind the canvas, but did find it took a while to dry after it rained. we could have been pro-active and put the beds in the garage before the rain, but meh... we never did. the webbing is nice because it dries quickly and basically lasts just as long (if not longer) than the canvas we used. plus, in the summer, i like to think it keeps the pups slightly cooler. I love that you made your bed large enough for both your pups! I'm sure they like that :)

Love the idea, specially the nylon webbing, I will be doing this for sure, specially for the warmer months. May even make one for indoors, my puppy is only 8 lbs.

the nylon webbing was after we had to replace the canvas so much... the new webbing is holding up much better than the yellow webbing - the newer webbing is showing no signs of wear, but the few straps of yellow are starting to fray... definitely let us know if you build a bed and how your pup likes it :)

I don’t like this webbing for smaller dogs because a foot could go through and cause a sprained or broken leg. Other outdoor chair fabric is strong and safe, like phifertex or textilene, especially if the corners of the frame are covered with the fabric.

You could but I'd slightly round the top edge of the wood, where the web drapes over, otherwise, it might eventually cut through the webbing.

my puppy used to break apart every dog bed so he had to sleep on a blanket instead for 2 yrs, now that he's 3 his destroying behavior has calmed down a lot and is back to sleeping in a comfy dog bed. Maybe your puppy is still young. Mine's a Chihuahua so you can imagine my surprise when he ripped apart the first of many beds, lol

How many yards of the nylon webbing did you use for one bed? I’m trying to make one but I’ll have to order everything offline (island life) and I dont want to have to stop half way through to wait for more nylon! Thanks for the video this is exactly what I was looking for!! ❤️

that's 13 strips at 2ft long each = 26ft, plus 11 strips at 4ft long each = 44ft, that's a total of 70 ft, that's roughly 23 yards. I don't believe she said exactly how much webbing, but you can do the math.

can i use old shirts and cut it in strips then make it look like that?

could work... t-shirts have more stretch than the nylon webbing and if it's outside, i can see cotton breaking down faster (sun/rain/etc). i think you mentioned you have a pretty small (light) dog, so shirts might be ok for you - i wouldn't try that w/ the size of our pups :) let us know how it goes!

we just pulled it as tight as we could get it by hand and then attached it w/ the screws. so far we haven't had issues w/ it being too loose even after years of use. hope that helps... let us know if you make one... we'd love to see it :)

we used 2 1/4 nylon webbing. we got our roll of 100 feet off ebay... I found this on amazon (affiliate link): amzn.to/2YEtxC3 it's for 150 feet but there are some other sellers that might work...
