There are certain stages where is it necessary to sit in the project car and make vroom-vroom noises: 1. when first acquiring the project car, 2. when the seats go back in, 3. when it sits on its wheels for the first time. At all other stages the vroom-vroom noises are optional. Thanks for another fun update, Kev!

That's looking amazing Kev! Q-Max hole cutters are really good, you can get all shapes and sizes. I've found a bit of lube on the cutter and thread helps, and orientating the tool so that the larger 'cup' part is behind the face of the panel gives a nicer edge. I usually wind them in with my Makita 18v impact wrench; it helps keep the panel from distorting as the turning force is centred.

I would make sure coolant temp and oil pressure are in line of sight as they are the two you look at the most and probably give the nav the fuel level and give yourself the voltage, my stage screen I only run with five things rpm, coolant temp, oil pressure, oil temp and voltage now, as I can’t take much more in tbh, and try and keep trim shine away as it’s horrible in the sun on the screen that’s were flock is good, looks good though.

Cheers for the advice Andrew, yea its tricky, i was in 2 minds with where to put the gauges - my main thought is i often don't look at the gauges when i am racing as i am too busy looking out the window tying not to hit things and that's why i like a rpm light and a rev limiter. Stack make some lovely gauges with built in programable alarms but they are super expensive. - so rpm and lammda are positioned for me, oil and temp is in the middle because not only is that the right place for a mk2 but both i and the navigator can monitor them. the fuel tbh could go next to the volts as both of those are for the service crew as its there job to refuel if needed and diagnose any electrical issues. but the good thing about any race or rally car is nothing stays the same and thats one reason i made the dash out of scrap - i just know i will redesign it again and again :) - glad you liked the video and thanks again for the advice.

@@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam yeah know what you are saying over the years I have now settled with a current dash setup and aim strada digital dash the main dash for me don’t matter as just revamped it on a current rebuild and made it in carbon as a one piece so got the mould now and sold a few to fellow 205 stage friends, tbh you will be surprised how much you do tend to look more as you get use to cresting and yumping on the limiter and looking at the same time 😂 ( I tend to do more MV and closed road), one thing I did do and is getting popular now is a second fuel gauge in the rear near the filler but that needs two circuits or a cut out so the resistance isn’t throw off it saves time in service.

so, SEM makes paint that mimics OEM crinkle/textured look on modern dash boards and exterior trims. Wonder how well it would work for repainting the center binnacle, to reproduce the crinkle look. If I get one in shoddy condition, I may do this. Also if heating plastic, I'd monitor the temp with a thermometer, unless it went too hot very quickly.

Errrr... sorry Kev - love your content, but the hinged system. I could be mistaken, but won't stuff wired on the left need much longer wires than that near the hinge? Would a fold-down system be better? Sorry if I am spoiling the party!
@TheGentlemensMotorRacingTeam3 жыл бұрын
no worries mate, you are 100% right, i did contemplate hinging it from the bottom, however, i went for the easy option - the good thing about any rally or race car is, nothing has to stay the same so if another way works better then i wont get upset about cutting and welding - its a tool after all. thanks for the advice and i am glad you enjoyed the video.
