I made one out of a piece of plastic. Works fine and was so much easier to shape.

Thanks for video! Done with lots of quality. The REAL problem, though, is the OTHER lock...on its back! It's a "rocker" type of system, meaning that - when you 'lock' one in, the other 'releases', and you can not retrieve BOTH, which is what I wanted, originally. The Quarter (or Dollar) tool is practical, yes. The OTHER one, I made with a steel wire - rigid- about 3 " long, with an 'L' bent at the end. You RELEASE the REAR lock - by pushing the lever back, allowing the safe to come UP, locking the chain end that has a HOLE in it, holding it secure. This way, you can not retrieve the key attached to the chain. In this case - since there is no solid Key - you CAN retrieve the 'L' shaped tool back out: the cart is now RELEASED. No need for quarter, or dollar, and no chain is holding onto it. 🕊

Much cheaper to use thin object like skewer or hair pin to press on the switch after coin inserted for release.

Lot of work to do it by hand but a press cutter can spit these out in the hundreds per minute.

Take a quarter, use a dremel/sandpaper to sand off the markings from the quarter. Drill a tiny hole on the quarter. Loop a string or a keychain through that hole. 😋

You ca't take out the quarter unless you return the cart.

I actually really like the box idea at the end. Aside from that, I have no idea what these are for lol. I saw you use it, but do you have to pay to use a shopping cart in your country?
@lsubslimed7 жыл бұрын
Nvm, I just did a quick search on this and learned how you get the coin black when you return it so people will actually take the time put them back. It's funny, this is the first time I've ever heard about this type of cart 'system' as I've never been to a store that does this.

I just use the blade on my Swiss Army Knife. Slide it into the mechanism and it clicks free!
Do you use removable hacks so you don't have to return your cart?
@diegudr Жыл бұрын
I use them because sometimes I can't park close enough to the ALDI and the shopping cart wheels lock on the way out to the car. That is frustrating enough without having your quarter stuck inside.

@jjman5339 ай бұрын
Anyone who does this is the same type of person who leaves the carts at the parking stalls. There is NO incentive for you to return the cart to get your lousy quarter back. The cashier SHOULD charge double or 50 cents for no quarter in the cart. Then the same type of scammers will get washers to make it look like a quarter. All over 25 cents LOL!

The design/shape works well. However, the metal work is just too complicated - too many tools and too much work to cut, shape, and sand. Use an old credit/debit card. Double it up if you think it's too flimsy. Cut the shape up with scissors and utility knife with ruler for straight edges. Use sand paper to smooth out the edges and rounded sections. Instead of doubling up the top end, I just superglued one of those plastic bread bag clips on one side. Anything 1.8mm - 2mm thick that fits inside the coin slot will do. I can't believe Amazon sells these things for $15USD! The shape works well so that you can actually take the key out of the coin socket instead of having it stuck inside until you can pull it out attaching to another cart key on the other end.
