How To Make A Resin Master Mold For Silicone Molds

In this tutorial we show how to make a permanent resin "master Mold" that can be used to mass produce molds for production casting. In this video we start with a 5110 silicone mold and make a master mold with our ArtKast resin. The finished master mold may be used to produce many faithful copies of the original mold.

for two pieces Mold, is the Hi temp, paste wax will work to keep the resin to stuck and release the other half of resin mold ??

I’m some cases I use SAM-32 silicone adhesive to stick the mold to the base board.

Got any good tips for making the master mould super glossy/shiny? I 3d print from resins, but client needs shiny moulds and not sure what's best practice that doesnt' involve toxic indoor fume sprays lol

I've seen Harrison Krix of Volpin Props make a type of acetone fume chamber, and somehow that softens out the lines.

What typically helps getting a shiny/glossy surface is sanding the material. Works with about everything from metal to all types of plastic. You would need some super fine sand paper though, talking about 1000 grit upwards to about 5000 grit (I did this with acrylic for example, now the edges of cut pieces are also super see-through and smooth of course). Resin, plastic etc should be wet sanded for best results.
