Wow! I’m amazed at how much work that went into the making of this rolled collar! I thought that I could make one, not so sure now. You are quite a craftsman!! Thanks so much for making this video!!

Thr rounding block's made in pairs. clamped together so holes of useful diameters can be drilled along the centre line.

Greetings, so I’m a little confused how you’re not using an inverse iron set and an awl to put in your stitching holes?

Hi, thanks for another great video - your channel is my first choice when I don't know how to make something. May I ask why you are marking the stitches on both sides of the leather?
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 2 жыл бұрын
With this method you are likely to see the stitches on both sides so having it marked both sides will make sure your stitches are even. 👍

But I'll still have to poke the awl through perfectly straight, otherwise it'll come out next to the stitch mark, not through it. Or did you punch all the way through the leather? (I'll probably do invisible stitching to avoid that difficulty, but I wanted to have another look at what you did with the rings...)

Thank you so much for making this video. I may have to give this one a go. =) The red dye that you use looks great. Is it Fiebing's? I have learned so much from watching your videos. You do such a wonderful job of explaining everything. Helps me tremendously. Someday I hope to make the quality of items you are producing (just started a few months ago). Anyways, Thanks again! Keep up the excellent work!

Beautiful! What kind of rope do you use or think you should use for a large dog about 50kg weight 😊
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 4 жыл бұрын
A 7/8mm rope would be good for a dog that size, you may need to have a wider leather strap to take into account the extra room needed for the thicker rope

Hi Jo thanks for this video. Is there any way to split leather without the splitting machine? To add my skiving is not so great yet - still practicing. I would like to attempt a rolled horse halter at some stage and make it as presentable as possible. Thanks

Hello, unfortunately I don't think there is an alternative when it comes to splitting. I think there are some more affordable machines out there now but not sure on there quality.

@@JHLeather Thanks for your reply. I will have to look at investing in one. Could you recommend some websites I can look at, perhaps I can have it exported to South Africa.

I know Abbey England ship worldwide so that would be a good place to start. Also I think that Tandy Leather Craft sell some, they are a US company but they seem to have loads of outlets so they maybe worth a look too.

Hi, thanks for your video and for helping me to get to grips with the techniques of rolling. I just need to take deep breath and buy a good splitter, something I've been putting off for too long... One question about tools if I may: are you using Blanchard edgers?
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 6 жыл бұрын
Hiya, glad you like the videos 😀 the edge tools I have are from the economy range from Abbey England, I got them about 9 years ago and they are very good. I haven't used the blanchard ones but the blanchard brand is ment yo be very good.

That's really helpful, thanks. I have acquired a pretty comprehensive collection of tools (including some from Blanchard, which can be very good but sometimes need surprising amounts of finishing, as their attention to detail isn't always brilliant) but I can't seem to find any edgers that I can get on with (that aren't hand made in the USA and cost an arm and a leg 🤔). I buy all my thread from Abbey but have never explored their tool selection. Doh. Good luck with the channel and future videos!

Hello from Canada again Jo! Fantastic tutorial! I love watching your tutorials and learning. Would this method also work for making a slip lead (leash)? Instead of a ring at the end, just a hand loop?
@JHLeather
@JHLeather 6 жыл бұрын
Hello, haven't made a hand rolled lead before as I find stitching a long length of rolled leather is really hard on my hands. It should work, but I'm not 100% sure what would be the best way to attach the handle onto it. (hope that makes sense)

Hi, your videos are so helpful 🤩 quick question - why do you use a small cutting knife rather than a half moon shaped one? Are there any advantages to the smaller one? Thanks so much x
